Yes, that is compulsory. MOE wants to ensure that if a student-athlete should decide to return to mainstream, either by choice or due to disciplinary problem, there is a MOE school they can go to. This backup school is selected via the S1 option using his PSLE t score. Thanks a lot. Will be meeting the coach tomorrow afternoon before we decide.
Can we still apply thru the S1 option after PSLE if we apply for the DSA?
SSP will give you a 'Request For Transfer' Letter addressed to the MOE school's principal. On the day you get letter of posting result, bring this letter to the school to get the principal to sign for your child to be transfer out. If it is a top school, the reaction is :yikes: , \"do you know I have a long queue in the waiting list to get into my school, are you sure about this?\" Yes, one lucky student have to thank you a million for giving up that space so he can get in  -
So we can still decide not to transfer after the S1 posting result by not submitting the letter?

Yes, of course. I suppose if one changes his mind at the very last minute after getting his result, then he isn't quite clear why he intended to go to a specialized school in the first place. I think the school would be most happy to sieve out these students. Parental support for a student-athlete is very important.
Cheers! -
Hi one more thing, do you still give allowance to your child? Does he need to have any money on him in case he needs to purchase stationary or other stuff?
-
Yes, I still give him an allowance.
There are vending machine that sells snacks and soft drinks. Stationary can be bought from boarding office. There’s no school bookshop. He’d hardly need to spend money in school but it’ll still be good to let him have some just in case. -
How much did you spend on the reporting day on uniform and books? Heard that there’s an orientation camp sometime in Nov. What’s the cost? Thks
-
:? Cannot remember. Perhaps $250. Excluding the material cost that is paid using Edusave. Sorry, this is just a rough figure, really cannot remember fo sure.
-
Any student taking 3rd language in Sports school? Is it outside the school?
-
Hi Dovetail,
My son has been offered a place at SSP for Fencing, and we've accepted it.
He'll be going for the Induction Camp next week, and he's so excited about it! -

Sports School says it found no evidence against ex-coach
By Chan U-Gene
Two years ago, there were rumours circulating in Singapore's swimming fraternity of an allegedly inappropriate relationship between a male coach and one of his female swimmers.
Nothing became of it at the time. But the issue has now resurfaced, with talk of a poison pen letter in circulation as well as a photograph showing the pair in what some say is a compromising situation.
Late on Tuesday night, the Singapore Sports School issued a statement which indicated that the coach concerned had been a member of its staff.
Its spokesman said: 'When our school heard about the rumours of the alleged liaison that surfaced during a major Games involving a coaching staff (member) of our school and an athlete in the national team, we took the matter seriously.
