During my ds time, those that entered thru centre posting were segregated from those thru dsa/affilation and sport classes. There was only one sport class and in it there were also boys who had met the cop. They remained in their respective classes till end of sec2. At sec 3, postings were based strictly on subject combination. The other area, all HCL students had to score at least an A2 for 0-level chinese which they took in sec3, otherwise needed to give up HCL.

Generally, those whose psle t-score 250-265, they were not muggers. While the school is able to achieve mean score of L1R5 9.1-9.7 the school could have performed even better if the boys had tried hard enough considering the fact that there were 6 classes of them in sec1. Think they will perform better at A-level, that’s when they are serious in their studies. Each year the principal of RI delivers a speech at CHS to encourage the students to place it as first choice over HCI.

The above is simply my impression and is not conclusive.

I am fully aware of how affiliation/non-affiliation n classes are segregated ESP since my dd who is now in JC was in a similar system. With her v average pale score she was in the affiliate express stream too and in her school, those were e most most poorly handled classes sigh. Thankfully she just suddenly started excelling in sec 3. Can’t say she’s hardworking though. So prob just blooming late. This happens with boys more I’d think. Cath high has it’s fair share of top students who started sec 1 with about 230. Theres quite some "value-add" I suppose.

Are u saying RI principal talk to cath high pri boys? as far as I know, no schools except the poorer neighbourhood sec schools are allowed to present since cath high is a full school. Maybe the GEP boys as moe arranges briefing for them

RI's principal encouraging the secondary boys not the primary.

There is still only 1 sports class now but there is also 1 mep class this year. According to my ds, there are affiliated pupils in all the 9 sec 1 classes this year.

But to say that a kid cannot cope as well in sec sch just because he score 230+ is not exactly really fair. My ds scored below the intake mean but he managed to score top 25 or 50 percentile for his subjects. Does he mug? No. Under stress? No. Play computer games whole day when at home? Yes. Just as phankao has mentioned, I think he is a late-bloomer too.

Let's give the sch some credit. My ds depended mostly on the sch so far for his education. They must be doing something right if my ds can manage on his own from p1 to s1. I'm more interested in the lifeskills that he will learn in sch than to score fantastically well but can't apply his learning to elsewhere.
            😄

If eligible to go under 2A1, you think we won't want to, meh? but not eligible for 2A1, because he would be sibling of a former student.

                      Hi,

Can I join this thread please? My eldest boy got a place in Catholic High in this year’s P1 registration, and he will start P1 next year.
I am currently in the process of reading through the earlier posts for this thread, and have so far reached the "button-on-uniform" discussion (and am very fascinated by it - I will study the pictures in detail. Thanks again to the kind parents who have given such useful and practical advice.)
I have not managed to read through all 70+ pages, hence please bear with me if this question has been posed before in this thread and have been answered already. I read in some other threads that in some schools, the kids are tested during orientation day or first day of school for P1 class streaming purpose. Does CHS do that during orientation or on first day of school? A little worried now, as I am not sure if my boy is "exam/test"-ready yet.
Grateful for any information and advice, as he is my eldest child, hence I do not have any prior "P1 experience", except DH’s and mine, which I am sure is "obsolete" now.

                        Welcome. :rahrah:

Erm.. should be no test lah. Can't remember. But for past practice, they got 1 week orientation when sch reopens, so no need to bring sch bags for a week. They will give you more details during orientation day.
