I'm sure with your guidance, he will be able to focus on his weak area and beef up on that. That is our most value-add to our kids!
I sure hope so. Bc right now, his grades sure don't look pretty at all.Pen88n:
Your DS sch pitches at higher level for most subjects. So even comparatively against national standard, he should be ok. After they have finished syllabus, then they can do revision.
I know quite some sch whereby they identify weak areas and use the additional supp class to provide more practice in these areas. My fren's kid's sch go to the extent of having classes for parents to learn how to support their kid for each subject, emphasize on which area to look out for, and how to address these. Comparatively, I find DS sch much more laid back in this area. They know the parents will be hands-on and will take up the task of coaching the kids - afterall we want to help our kids and if sch is not doing, we need to roll up our sleeves, right?
Yeah, last time my elder boy's class had intensive Chinese drilling classes from the 1st week of p6 year bc that was what they were especially weak in. But this time, my younger boy's class - no such identification. All uniform in their supplementary class approach. ;(
Even my eldest daughter's time, they picked out the students according to their areas of weakness (and even areas of strengths) and had supplementary classes for them accordingly. -
Hi Mummies
Think most of the school now should be busy preparing the children for the coming prelim oral as well as PSLE oral.
Hopefully the intensive training will help the children to improve in this area!

Hi there seem to be very little discussion on PSLE Chinese.
I notice that for DS, the part that he lose marks most in school exams and practice papers is usually the 2nd comprehension.
The marking seems to be very strict. Some answers that I would expect some marks get a 0 for the whole question.
Sometimes he can lose up to 15 marks in that section.
Will the marking be more lenient for PSLE ? -

Think Most Sch Will Mark their P6 Students papers in line with Marking Std for PSLE. And that Could be Quite Stringent.
Normally they Got some Keywords to look out for, then can award marks.
Think Maybe they want to standardise the Marking Score, and Not Based on Markers discretion.

I don't know if the marking's more lenient at PSLE but the national average is >80% of students score A or A* at PSLE Chinese, so that's good news.Hi there seem to be very little discussion on PSLE Chinese.

Year 2010
Subject % scoring A and A*
English 44.3%
Maths 43.3%
Science 43.2%
Chinese 81.2%
Also notice that the Q&A Chinese is the most quiet forum in kiasu parent.
As the marking, think the school teacher should have marked simiarly to PSLE standard.
These 15marks are equ to 7.5 marks. As such have to try to score well in those MCQ, oral and listening test etc to cover any set back from compre or compo. -
Hello Brenda,
Thanks for sharing the info.
Din know that chinese is the highest % for A star.I always thought its math.
Comprehension Chinese
I would think the second compre in the paper is slightly tougher than the first one.
