Hi there seem to be very little discussion on PSLE Chinese.

I notice that for DS, the part that he lose marks most in school exams and practice papers is usually the 2nd comprehension.
The marking seems to be very strict. Some answers that I would expect some marks get a 0 for the whole question.
Sometimes he can lose up to 15 marks in that section.
Will the marking be more lenient for PSLE ?

        Depends on the School.
Think Most Sch Will Mark their P6 Students papers in line with Marking Std for PSLE. And that Could be Quite Stringent.
Normally they Got some Keywords to look out for, then can award marks.
Think Maybe they want to standardise the Marking Score, and Not Based on Markers discretion.

I don't know if the marking's more lenient at PSLE but the national average is >80% of students score A or A* at PSLE Chinese, so that's good news.

Think may be due to the percentage of getting A/A* in PSLE Chinese is much higher than other subject.

            Year 2010
            Subject % scoring A and A*
            English 44.3%
            Maths 43.3%
            Science 43.2%
            Chinese 81.2%

Also notice that the Q&A Chinese is the most quiet forum in kiasu parent.

As the marking, think the school teacher should have marked simiarly to PSLE standard.

These 15marks are equ to 7.5 marks. As such have to try to score well in those MCQ, oral and listening test etc to cover any set back from compre or compo.

              Hello Brenda,

              Thanks for sharing the info.

Din know that chinese is the highest % for A star.I always thought its math.

              Comprehension Chinese
I would think the second compre in the paper is slightly tougher than the first one.

                Hi Leanne

                You're welcome.

True, especially if there is 1 - 2 questions that require to use your own words or phrases!

Q&A Chinese little discussions : For Maths, EL,SC, there are regular members who contribute answers and also some tutors/centers drop-in to give 'expert' answers to up their visibility. For Chinese, there's no such support so I think that's why the discussion is quiet - not because the subject/paper is easier. For my case, it is like don't know what to ask/discuss.... :imdrowning:

I am curious if Malay and other mother tongue also has high percentage of A/A* compared to EL,MA,SC...could be due to Mother Tongue's number of candidates are smaller than the core subjects. It is also because of the high percentage of A/A* for CL that we worry about affecting T-score if didn't manage to get A.

                        Hi pixiedust

                        2010 (National) A/A*
                        English 44.3%
                        Math 43.3%
                        Science 43.2%
                        Chinese 81.2%
                        Malay 72.6%
                        Tamil 78.1%

Still the MT (CL/Malay/Tamil) are higher than the other 3 subjects.

Perhaps the CL past year papers had provided all the answer key unlike the some Math past year paper just have the answer without the working.

                        Just my 2 cents thought
