if they r all over n frm diff walks of life, what is the 1similarity tat they all haf, thus ending up as PVs for RGPS?btw,do they all stay nearby?i mean nt far away in another part of the island?Hi
It is not fair to say that the teacher in RGPS don't teach. My daughter has been in RGPS for 3 years. Due to her serious illness in the earlier years, her development is slightly slower than kids her age. The teacher there has been wonderful & try to help my daughter out & advise me that she will soon catch up with her class mate. When my daugther remedial class for a subject clash with another, the other teacher try to re-schedule so that my daughter is able to attend both remedial lessons. I have even heard of a teacher helping out another student as the child's father was missing.
There are some parents that I know while doing parents volunteering. The children there comes from all walks of life. Their parents can be rich, average or poor. Their parents can be a minister, lawyers, doctors, manager, executive, technician, secretary, clerk etc all with the aim of getting the best education for their kids.
The biggest problem is actually the distance. The stress level is not perceived. RGPS don't have CA. They have topical test instead. Papers are generally more difficult than neighbourhood school. The difficult qs are usually the last few questions in the papers. -

I think your case is exception. Wait till your girl is on par with her classmates. Now she is P3? I think by now, perhaps you would gradually see that teachers just write the answers on the board and ask them to copy (especially Maths). Worksheets given without teaching, expect parents to teach. In another topic, I read someone who is now in NIE has relief in sch before and has many teacher friends and all commented not much teaching.
With regards to PV, sch choose who they want. Doctors, Dentists. Not like last time traffic warden, painter, gardener.
To be explicit what deardear07 said, the whole stretch of Bukit Timah are all freehold properties -
Hi
I was one of the PV. Although a graduate, at the time I applied for the PV, I was just a service rep, working odd hour so that I can spend time with my kids & doing PV.
My daughter is now catching up. Her marks range from 40-60s (it was better in P1). For those borderline cases or fail, they pull the students from the normal class & are put in a slower class. All in all there are less than 10 students attending the math class. They go at a slower rate when compared to the rest. My daughter will join back the class for her other subjects.
Those who marks range from 55-65, will attend remedial class after school. The remedial class are not compulsory. You will need to give consent if you want your daughter to be in this class.
At the start of the year, the teachers gave the parents their e-mail or handphone number so that we are able to be in touch with them. May be not all teachers there are like that, but so far, I have been in contact with most of my daughter’s teachers and vice versa.
For a girl that is slightly late in development, she has so far enjoy the drama class held during the English lesson. Learn how to use the computer & submit her homework via online.
My son’s school is one in the west area. Although just a P1 students, he has no qualms in approaching the teacher when he don’t understand the questions. The teacher conveniently tell him to look at the board without explanation. I posed some questions to the school went unanswered and many other things that irks me eg when I call the office, the person conveniently hangs up on me. -
Hi deardear07
Not sure what their motivation are in applying PV in RGPS. I do know mine & I have no regrets. I do talk to other parents in different classes. Some are not happy with the teachers which I did not probe further.
Here are the places that I have heard where the students live. Jurong, Bukit Panjang, Chua Chu Kang, Kembangan, Bedok, Changi (this one I’m not sure if they move nearer), Bishan, Clementi & Bukit Timah. I am sure there are other places which I am not aware off. -
for schools in BK as they are not known as neighbourhood schools…more like schools in town area, unlikely majority will come from the neighbourhood.
-
Even though neighbourhood in other parts (ie Jurong), definitely NOT technicians, clerks.
-
hmm, so they do choose ppl with a certain status…but just 1parent or both have to be of certain title~~?
nowadays, they r vvv realistic huh? usually only the within 1km can get in for RGPS/ NPS…so meaning to say only the rich can get in lor??coz all landed/ private homes mah… -
i don't think schools like NYP/RGPS apply different rules from any other schools.
all schools evaluate parents based on value they can offer to the school...and influence and network may be one value school needs to get some things done, hence they may select parents of influential background for PV n I believe all schools do that regardless they are in east, west, north or central zone. btw, i am not influential hor....
all schools have to follow the 1km ruling n this is town area so inevitably the wealthier people stays there..what can we say other than move there? btw, i don't live there hor....
so there is nothing realistic in terms of their \"special\" critiera if you think there is. what is real is that ALL schools welcome influential parents and the 1km is moe guidelines for admission. -
Hi
Sorry. Has things change? I was being interviewed by the principal & she ask me why I want to apply in RGPS. Her main concern is mainly will I be able to do PVG since I’m working. I can confirm even a technician has sent their daughter in that school. But at that time, they are able to secure a place at phase 2C.
By the way, MGS, Henry Park, SCGS & Nanyang are all good schools. I tried applying PVG for Henry Park, but it was already full. On the day of registration of Phase 2B, balloting was needed. MGS is a missionary school, Nanyang is another hot favourite among parents. SCGS will be too far away for me. I choose RGPS as there is a direct SBS bus that my daughter can take to go home. -
