I’m left-handed and I never have any problems writing. Left-handers may hold the pen differently but it’s not a problem so long as the handwriting is neat. I strongly urge parents not to force their kids to use their right hands if they are left-handed. It can adversely affect their mental development.

My son is left-handed since birth. He writes & eats with left hand, except for clicking mouse with right hand. I surveyed most of my left handed friends. Most also didn’t reconfigure mouse to left hand mouse, so I think it’s fine. The rest of the family are right handed. So except for elbowing with the right hander on dining table, everything is fine.

On training, I hope u r not training a left hander to use right hand. Just guide him along. I found difficulty correcting his strokes esp Chinese. He writes right to left. Slowly as he goes to P1 next year bah…

I am left handed, so is my son, my brother is left-handed, my father is left-handed, 5 out of 6 aunties are left handed, all my brother’s kids are left handed. And since we live in a righthanded world, all of us can write and eat with left and right and learn that just for fun.

Left or right is fine. Don’t waste cycles on this. Worry about other things.

Don’t correct your child when he/she is a left handed. People are paying money to get their children to use their right brain. If you are left handed, you are a right brainer. So already saving money ma.

                  Hi mummy2008!

My suggestion is ask him to bring something, observe which hand is he using.Observe whenever he do something other than studies what hand he is using for. Then decide.
I heard from one of my friends, her son also using both hand and comfortably. Some people has this talent also.
I think all children don’t know which hand to use in early years.I also confused with my son. Then my sister suggested the above I mentioned in the beginning of the paragraph.I wait for my son then I decided that he is right hander.

I am a left-handed myself and so I can know the \"inconvenience\" whenever I am in a group esp wedding dinner! 😉 You know - how awkward it is when you have to sit with \"strangers\" 😉

My DD2 is also a left-handed and recently I realise that my 22 month old bb is also too :imcool: . I did not insist that they switch to the right-handed although knowing the \"inconveniences\" it will bring in the future. But as soon as my DD2 started pre-school 3 years ago, I have made it known to the school that she is a left-handed and she might encounter certain problems - like writing will be not \"straight\", etc....But so far so good, she is doing well and she is now in K2.

I noticed that DS2 might be a left-hander when he first used his left hand to hold his spoon. I just matter of factly, took the spoon from his left hand and transferred it to his right. After a few times, he got the message and learnt to use his right hand. This also applied when he used his left hand to hold a pencil. There was no protests etc cos I didn't make a fuss over it. Other than eating and writing, I'm not bothered which hand he used. However, I do notice that once he's used to holding spoon and pen in his right hand, it become of habit to hold other things with the same hand. I was \"lucky\" to have caught him young cos DH and some of his family members are left-handed and I can see how inconvenient it has been for them including DH. I was really on the look out. :boogie:
