There is 2 sides to a coin - when it is a high % of A / A*, then it is good for those who score A / A*. However, it also mean that you have to be very exceptional to score a higher T-score for this subject, since overall mean will be higher.

In case of kid who is not in the category of A / A* for Chinese, then they will suffer as their T-score will be badly affected by this.

Think so as during parent teacher meeting earlier this year the form teacher had reminded us to pay attention on the MT to avoid being pull down by it.

Yes, have to ensure a decent score for Chinese. That's why this year for DS, emphasis has been on Chinese since that is not his strong subject.

It’s not that difficult to score an A in PSLE chinese after moderation, as >80% score A/A* nationally. BUT an A could mean a low A or a high A and that makes a difference.

For students to score A* or High A in MT, their difference lies in their paper 1 which comprises of oral, listening comprehension and compo writing. Students who can exel in this area, trust they belong in > 80% category

As a pupil progresses in his/her academic pursuit, the importance of MT declines. Is never a subject of debate at pre university level. Anw, MOE has made it so easy for students to meet the uni’s MT requirement ie a D7 for O-level HCL or a pass at H1 MTB.

            Very easy. No worries.

Yes, the teacher did mention the critical factor to determine high A or A* are oral (50 marks) and compo (30 marks).

For paper 2, those mcq and identify three ci yu have make out a total of 62 marks out of 90 marks before the child attempt to open & end compre. As such this 62 marks have to try to score as high as possible.

Definitely. At PSLE, CL takes up 25% of total weightage. By secondary school, it's just 1 of 7 subjects. And by Pre-U, you can even drop it if you manage to clear HCL at O levels.

So parents with kids weak in CL, do not despair. 😄
