      Hi,

Just a little info. My son's classmates who scored above 80% for SA1 results this year and applied for Nanyang Girls through DSA need not go through any test or interview but received letter of acceptance from the school about two weeks ago.

However, the boys who applied for DSA to HCI still need to go through an interview and a writing test even though they obtained above 80 % too - my son says unfair - is better to wear skirts  :x

All his boys classmates, regardless of Platinum winner or RI Math winner who top singapore need to go though interview - there is no guaranteed entrance to both schools - they are just hear say or myth.

And till now, non of his friends received any news from both RI or HCI, even for those Platinum winners for SMOPS or the top RI Math winner in singapore .

But I have check with both schools and they mentioned that result will be out in the middle of this month for RI and 22 Aug for HCI.

Yr son's classmate must have some attributes that NYGH find suitable to enter. Congrats to her really.

hi, my gal got few classmate went and sit for the GST test in nanyang too. only 2 is call up for interview. 1 is top in class and the other 1 is normal grade. so the rest is no hope liao, including my gal. hahaha

Ok , they applied through the GEP domain.

But the boys (also GEP domain) did not gain any immediate acceptance. In fact the boys fair better then the girls - almost 90% for SA1

I believe she can still work hard for it. If there is a will, there is a way.

Jia You to all who are taking PSLE this year, including my son (no news from DSA todate)

hi edanson, last year my girl was saying unfair too - better be boys. Because the PSLE COP for HCI was lower than Nanyang and eventually both would proceed to the same HCJC. hahaha !! πŸ˜„

of course RI and RGS - \"every girl is a leader or sth\" in their motto?

For the mainstreamers, they only started to attend interviews last week and received calls this week. I guessed only those who really excelled in the CCAs they applied under or those top-of-the-cohort type got confirmed so far. The rest, have to wait. But that does not mean totally no hope liao. However, out of the 900 plus applicants for this year's DSA, they are choosing (i guessed) slightly more than a hundred (??) - the chance is not very high unless you have 'something' they are looking for. Like HCI, those on the front of the waitlist have a good chance to get in too as some of those 'confim' candidate will most likely chosse RGS if they also received confirmation from RGS.

Wow! looks like your son is sure to get a place. Although my son was selected by his school for SMOPS, he didnt get any award coz his school didn't provide any formal training 😒 He was selected based on his consistent good results for Maths. He was only given 4 lessons (2 hours each) by his Maths teacher and off he went for the competition. Is like sending him to the battle field without teaching him how to hold his rifle :stupid:

In my opinion, Maths Olympiad is not like any other gifted test (e.g P3 GEP screening test or GAT whereby preparation is not encouraged). In fact, I realised that many schools engaged external trainers to train their students and on top of that, some parents even sent them for private tuition.

Anyway, I'm not putting too much hope for DSA coz it's really tough competing among all the awardees. I am already happy that he was selected for the RI Selection test as I know of people with formal training didn't even make it to the selection round :?
My son was not selected to represent his school (As there are too many GEP pupils). He did not have any external training. I have to provide the 'internal' training for him.

That's where I feel that they are not competing on fair ground. GEP pupils are trained and exposed to maths olympiad type of questions. Good thing that you can give ''internal'' training. Your hard work has definitely paid off.
