All About Kids' Eye-sight

KK Children’s Hospital has specially trained opticians for very young children. You can’t just walk into any optician shop. They can only make the glasses based on the prescription from a specialist.
My daughter was first diagnosed by the ‘mobile nurses’ who went to her preschool. She was then referred to a polyclinic which then referred her to a hospital, eg, NUH. -

Sure? I just sent my P3 son to a shop in the basement of Parkway Parade and they just tested his eyesight and made the glasses with no fuss. Or are you referring testing for below a certain age?KK Children's Hospital has specially trained opticians for very young children. You can't just walk into any optician shop. Just did it this afternoon, keke. The optician at Takashimaya B1. He doesn’t need glasses, which is nice, but he’s complaining that the words jump around and is making him tired, which seems more tricky to deal with, hmmm.
Has anybody ever heard of this? He’s still reading a tonne. These complaints are new, although he now says it’s been bothering him for a while. Why he never mentioned, I don’t know! -
hee hee ... i was referring to preschoolers, before they enter primary one.

I though kids now wear more classes because they watch too much TV or play too much computers
not to forget, rich parents buy their kids PSP as young as P1. -
May I ask what are the symptoms of bad eye sight in kids? My son is coming to 5 in Sep 08...
Loves to read his books in his own time but noticed him having this \"uncontrollable\" squint whenever he watches TV prog  ... I asked him to stop squinting ... His reply to me was... He cant help it??!!
Think need to get him checked? -
HPB gives K1 students in my kid’s kindy free checkup in the school itself and in K2 they will review the cases with eye problems.
Did his school inform you? -

Actually we recently signed an authorisation form for my son to have his eyes checked when the HPB visits his school... I guess I should wait for their assessment then.HPB gives K1 students in my kid's kindy free checkup in the school itself and in K2 they will review the cases with eye problems.

You should not bring young kids to Opticians. Some may have pseudo-myopia and may end up with unnecessary glasses that damage their eyesight. Proper assessment should be done by an Opthalmologist. They would need to administer special eyedrops to assess the child's eyes appropriately.

1. Get an Opthalmologist's opinion.
2. If required, then go to an optician for prescription glasses.
Regards.
