Thanks acforfamily for the informative message.
Plaza sing weekly is a concern from the parents ;-< But of course, it maybe undue worries as my kid may not even get to be selected.
Quick question: Is it have to be piano or can the child choose electone?
Wondering also if private teachers also teach composition and improvisation as part of standard course 'cos my child’s interest is to be a composer (at least for now).

Yamaha Special Junior Advanced Course - Discussion
(This is for students that complete the Foundation Stage of the Yamaha Junior course of 2 yrs and was qualified via special audition.)
Anyone/parent of one was from this course? Can you share you/kid’s experience? Is it tough/too taxing? What’s the audition/selection success rate and is it conducted at a centralised location only? -
RE: Working Parents - How much quality time do you get weekdays?
Here's my quality time schedule with my K2
Weekends - we almost do everything together ie bkfast, grocery shopping, cleaning, meeting family/friends etc
Weekdays - i treasure those short walk/drive to & fro CC (5 mins/day), play - mostly Q&A time (15 mins/day) but my favourite activity is to snuggle with him in the bed before sleeptime and chat (15-30 mins)

RE: Eczema or Atopic Dematis
My ds is enzymic as well. I use Cetaphil shower as well as Cetaphil moisturing cream. The best advice i had when he had rashes was to bathe him in/with ABC Guiness Stout beer. No kidding, it works!

RE: Preschool Curriculum
Insider, I just received my boy’s cultural topics (eg plants, animals, musiscal instruments) for 2009 and they are almost 80% same topics as this year’s. Is it norm?

RE: Kids say the darnest things...
When my boy was about 3, I taught him the difference btw living and non-living things. Explained to him that all livng things will die. He quickly patted his chest and exclaimed, "I am NOT a living thing!"
When he was about 4, replied that his great grandfather is in heaven ie cannot see him anymore. "As in extinct?" Er … yes somthing like that. He concluded, then he and dinosaurs will be good friends in heaven. -
RE: Yamaha or Cristofori
My boy is in Yamaha JMC since he was four (the min age requirement). I personally prefer group learning for younger kids as they will find it more interesting. Plus I was told that they have a chance to perform on stage later which of course is a bonus as compared to individual lesson. I chose Yamaha simply due to its proximity to I where I stay and that it’s established with different branches in the event that I swift house, I know that continuity is not an issue.
The most important thing is the kid’s interest in music. It is true that Yamaha has its focus on listening for younger kids as it believe that this skill is harder to train after 6 /8 years old. I appreciate that 'cos now my boy, after 1.5 years of Yamaha, can literally listen to any piece of music and replay the piece on the keyboard. I was pleasantly surprised too when he came home last Saturday after hearing Frosty the Snowman whilst we were shopping and played it back on the keyboard the next day.
He has no problem in reading notes too. He loves new songs and I brought him a music book for young children and he actually played songs from the book by reading the scores - the traditional way ie one of my relative told me hers learn to identify Cherry as C note - mtd which am not in favour.
The only downside I see is I am sure that he can definitely learn at a faster rate in individual coaching session. Then again, why the rush? -
RE: Febrile Fits
Hi luvmum, I dont know. Mine so far happens when accompanied with fever.
Here’s the extract from KK brochure on febrile fits - not sure if it helps.
- Simple febrile fits commonly occur in children between 6 mths to 6 years old. There may be a history of such fits in the family.
- Fits usually occur with high fevers, especially when the temp reachers 38.5 deg or more.
- In a fit, the child’s arms and legs will jerk involvuntarily; up-rolling of the eyes and teeth clenching are common sighs. The child may also pass motion and/or urine during a fit.
- Fits usually last a few minutes, with some as long as 15 minutes.
- A child will commonly feel sleepy after a fit.
- There is a 30 per cent chance that the child will have another fit, especially if the body temperature maintains at 38.5 deg and above.
- The actual cause of febrile fits has not been clearly established but they may be a background family history associated with it.
- Simple febrie fits do not cause brain damage nor do they cause delay in a child’s development. -
RE: Febrile Fits
Thank you thank you all for sharing !
My feet went wobbly each time i recall those incidents (had a couple) and every single fever alarm or call from teachers (yes I was kiasu enough to tell them to call me whenever the temp is above 37 deg) will make me jump and drop whatever I was doing and rushed to pick him up/home. Felt guilty and helpless too when sometimes you thought it’s due to your fault that perhaps ibufern was administered not fast enough.
I dont think others will be able to understand until you have seen your own child in that state before …
