Can anyone advise if BASC and student care the same, or are the 2 different setups?

BASC stands for Before & After School Care, which essentially is a student care centre. 🙂

Wouldn’t it be a better idea if all primary schools can run their own BASC. They can always get the private sectors to run the BASC in their schools. This way, i guess we parents can have a peace of mind at work w/o having to worry about our children safety to BASC and making special arrangements when the child has CCA and extra classes later on. With BASC within the school compound, our children can just walk back to the BASC classrooms after their CCA or extra classes. This way, they will not need to leave the school compound and chances of them caught in an accident while crossing the road or caught in the heavy rain is definitely minimise.

Anyway, i will be doing my registration in for my girl this July and would be sourcing for a good BASC. Any recommedations from parents residing in Sembawang neighbourhood?

I think most schools are aiming for this if they have the space because it also means another source of income for the school (rental). & more parents would register their children in their school for convenience.

However, I have spoken to parents before and some of them expressed concerns about having their children stuck in the same school environment the whole day. Also, because they may be so comfortable with the place, they may not report to the BASC on time (go off to play with friends in the field, etc).

Another factor to consider: Most BASC found in schools close early as the school gate closes easrly. Which means that parents may need to rush to pick up their children by 6.30pm or maybe earlier, depending on what time the school closes their gates. Those single session schools usually close their gate earlier.

I guess there are pros & cons. 🙂

I am searching high and low for a new BASC near my girl’s school (Bedok Green Primary). Her school don’t provide BASC due to lack of facilities. Currently she is in another BACS that is about 2 streets away which I am worried if she needs to make her own way there if she needs to stay back for extra lessons.

The BACS that she is attending now is quite old and there are only 2 teachers to about 20 students.

I had been calling the nearby childcare centres that are listed on mcys website that claims to provide student care service but the response that i got is that they do not provide currently.
