GSK:
Can anyone knows what are the score when one posted to Express Stream, is it across the board. What if the pri school got affliated sec school, is the cut off point to express lower?
COP for Express stream is 200 in most schools, 188 in some.
If you are from an affiliated school, you enjoy a lower COP, which may range from a set COP like 200 or 220 or 230 or 250 depending on the school. -
if preschools like Kinderland can have branches spread out over entire country, maybe MOE can consider cloning branches of Tier 1 primary schools over several housing estates in SG for:
- Nanyang, Rosyth, Henry Park, Rulang, Tao Nan, Ai Tong, Catholic High, Radin Mas (for co-ed)
- MGS, CHIJ St Nicholas, RGPS (for girls’ school).
say, let’s start with 2 branches from each of above named first.
But need the same Principal to manage 2 branches - because only the same P can maintain the same standard in both schools. Only the teachers can be different in each branch, but P must be the same.
then we’ll have Nanyang main branch at Bukit Timah + Nanyang at another area.
likewise also have Rulang at Jurong West + Rulang at another HDB estate. Same goes for Ai Tong, Catholic High in Bishan + somewhere else …
if proven successful, then slowly increase from 2 to 3 branches.
this way, parents less anxious. If can’t enter say, Tao Nan at Marine Parade, still can try another Tao Nan branch, since standard is the same. -
that means instead of opening up new schools like Frontier or Cantonment (recently), where need to start all over again to prove itself over several yrs, like establish new curriculum, new workflow teaching processes, etc. just take the existing well established and proven teaching methods & processes that’s already been established in Tier 1 hot popular schools, start another branch.
… say if create another new branch under same name in another area (eg: Nanyang), who are the key people we need ? besides the same P, we need the same HODs (Head of department) for English, Chinese, Maths, Science. The junior subject teaching staff can be different. But the P and HODs must be the same in both branches.
if really cannot have same P nor same HODs, then the new P and new HODs of 2nd branch must understudy and report to the main (HQ P + HODS) for a period of time, in order to ensure can maintain the same standard throughout both branches.
becos right now, there are so many schools available. But look at the low take up rate in these unpopular schools. Parents only rush to enter hot, popular schools. Remaining schools so many, but low student population take up. Might as well clone another existing Tier 1 popular school with well established teaching curriculum / methodology that’s been proven over so many yrs, then to start a new school trying to prove itself all over again, like Frontier. -

FYI and especially for those parents who, like me, are waiting till the 2nd day of 2B to see how many have applied and start calculating the chances of getting their child into their dream school - I called AT and asked if they will reveal out of the number of applicants staying <1km, how many are Sporeans so that I can calculate more accurately my dd's chances. They said will only give the number of applicants, no breakdown given. So in summary, can calculate till the cows come home, but will never be able to calculate correctly. Sigh... getting in boils down to pure luck :frustrated:
Actually i believe there is no directives from MOE whether schs can reveal the numbers or the breakdowns.
I am not upset with AT. On the contrary, I find their admin staff v helpful and friendly in the face of all the calls and enquiries they must b getting at this time. I am frustrated that after all the effort I have put in to get the shhk letter, I am just gg to walk away from AT without even trying. Such is life when u get hit w a curve ball
DH used to work in a sch and has seen through 2 principals. First P was a nice person, didn't want to give parents false hopes. So advised those who clearly can't make it to apply else where. Second P wanted balloting and inflated numbers to make the sch look very popular. Admin staff were told to accept every application and not to reveal numbers.
What to do?
-
if very tiring for current P and HODs to run around 2 branches maintain the same standard, perhaps MOE can invite past retired ex P and ex HODs (on pension scheme) to start 2nd branch. Though retired, but these ex staff had many golden years of much valuable, precious teaching experience and knowledge of culture in these schools.
In fact, they are the founders. They are the ones who laid the name down for the school to such high prominence today. They’ll know what to do, how to set up, rather than take in fresh Ps or new green horns who had no related experience with these Top Tier 1 hot, popular schools. -

Just wondering, like that might as well just have MOE set all the exam papers n teaching material... Then there won't be a popular school prob liao!if very tiring for current P and HODs to run around 2 branches maintain the same standard, perhaps MOE can invite past retired ex P and ex HODs (on pension scheme) to start 2nd branch. Yes, clone all primary schools in SG to follow Nanyang high standard.
all pupils sit for common exam qns, common tests.
everything all common.
then there won’t be clamoring of anymore hot, popular school.
all these will become history. -
in fact, will resolve all issues / headache.
for P1 - P6 psle, all pupils to sit for common exams, common tests for all subjects (english, maths, chinese, science) across the board.
no more popular school … becomes history of the past.
no need what phase 1, 2A1, 2A2, 2B, 2C, 3.
no need balloting < 1km, between 1 to 2 km, > 2 km … all these will become history.
children just need to study the nearest school nearby, bec standard tested is going to be the same. Children just walk to nearest school, no need take school bus.
every school in SG to follow Nanyang high standard.
even non-popular schools will get populated.
enough schools to educate all SG kids, PR kids, foreigner kids. -
phtthp:
But... many parents already buy exam papers from popular schools for their kids to work on mah.
all pupils sit for common exam qns, common tests.
everything all common.
Replicate the teaching methodology, maybe. Cos we already 'sit' for the same tests and exams!
