P3 Assessment Books (English, Maths, Science & Chinese)
-
Hi smartmummy,
No worries! Don be :scared: to visit the assessment books thread! :snuggles:
I admit I am very tempted whenever I am in Popular and in the assessment books section!
I don insist my DD1 to do all those that I buy - usually I will run thru the book 1st in Popular, turn to the answer page and see how did the author answer to it. Only when I have screened thru and understand the concept then I will buy the book.
For Maths, I will usually attempt to the problem sums section myself first. DD1 is more \"co-operative\" to work on the MCQ section
, so I will just randomly pick the problem sums for her to work on
Just my own sharing - for your reading pleasure.... :hi5: -
Hi Champion,
Fm the few pages you posted, yr latest 'conquer'- Maths assessment bk doesn't look so difficult leh.. Anyway, I always admire your perserverence in acquiring new assessment books and getting yr DD1 to try :salute: .
I have not bought any Maths ones this year as cannot find time for DS to do.. How do U manage :scratchhead:? -

This latest addition that I bought I am more interested in the problem sums and the method of presentation by the author. I don't like those one line answer type of assessment books and will NEVER buy those
My DD1 can work on the MCQ on her own and I will mark them either in the night or on weekends...But I have to emphasis is she does not do ALL the assessment books only random ones!
I will only sit down to do those problem sums after I have run thru the questions and have the answers in mind.
Another way that I have learnt and am doing now - is for those Maths assessment books with problem sums only - I will copy the solutions from the answer sheets to the questions and after that study them myself. Only nearer to the exam times, I will pick up those challenging questions and re-type out for DD1 to work on. I find this method quite useful as I learn the various methods in answering Maths questions ( I am a slow worker so I need time to absorb
)....
Just my own opinions to share with all... :grphug: -
Wow! You are a very hardworking mummy :rahrah: :udawoman: !

Hi sleepy,
You are not lazy lah - you are also a very hands-on mummy! :celebrate: :celebrate:
As I mentioned above, I am a slow learner so many a time I need to do a lot of \"practises\" myself before I can grasp the concept and teach DD1. Also those assessment books with my own handwritings, I can keep it and
the syllabus will not change much so I can use them again for DD2 in 3 years' time

:hi5: That was the expereince that I gained during the learning of those \"unit transfer\" last year. It is very tough but I feel satisfactory once dd get faimilar and able to swim by herself. -

Thanks for the encouragement! :hi5:
DD1 once told me, \" Mummy, some of my classmates went for tuition so they already know how to solve those problem sums. Can you teach me based on your understanding and your method? I will check with teacher whether your method is correct!\" This sure gives me the confidence & motivation to learn!

Hi there
I thought I would share my experiences of “cloze” work with my P3 DS.
He can do them quite easily in the EPH Books Challenging 4-in1 English and Complete Practice in Vocab, Grammar and Comprehension, as they contained easy questions with a list of answers to choose from. I then found that my DS could not do Comprehension Cloze.
We now the SAP Book, Conquer Cloze P3 and it is helping him greatly. There are 3 sections, Grammar Cloze, Vocab Cloze and Comprehension Cloze. Each section is split into Basic, Intermediate and Advanced parts.
Grammar Cloze and Vocab Cloze have a list of words. I hide these words (and it becomes a Comp Cloze) and therefore it encourages DS to think about the passage before inserting the right word. The fact that it starts from Basic level encourages him to comprehend the text.
He will attempt they Comprehension Cloze last, and I believe his approach to the Vocab and Grammar sections will set him in good stead.
I would thoroughly recommend this series of books.
