From the recent release of DSA offers from NYGH, I found that there are girls who are the very top in their CCA in the whole of SG, but were rejected while those who are not as good were offered. Possibly they are now moving towards taking in only students that they think can cope in IP programme.

Yes right...my son is in Year2 in an IP school now...SUPER busy and tough... got to be really independent...and no amount of tuition outside can help. Though no 'O' level exams but they have other tasks or projects to ensure the students are challenged and prepared for 'A' levels.

Just my input on what i personally know based on my son's current experience.

Can let us know which IP sch is it?

Hi doesn't matter which IP school really...but it's not ACS ( I) and Dunman High is all i will say. And also he was not from the gifted program. And yes even i hv to \"make appointment\" to talk or discuss things with him because he's usually home late and lots of assignments to do ...tests etc..

But he and his school or class friends find such life a norm because the teachers are very helpful and supportive and also he always says he is not alone in this kind of life in school. He is happier now compare to y1 when just entered.

Recently I spoke to a neighbour whose son is in RV Sec1 this year. The dad says everyday his son is busy with sch work. I always see the boy coming home ard 5pm. Is this the norm?

A casual acquintance told me her dd's pri sch classmate flunked most of her class test in RV. Is it only RV or most IP schs are like what you hv mentioned- pegged sec 1 at sec 3 level?

My son reaches home almost 8pm 4 days a week. Only when his dad is able to pick him up from school can he reach home earlier. So, this is normal. (CCA commitments esp. during competition seasons, 3rd Lang & etc). Weekdays very busy. Weekends catch up on sleep & more relax.

According to the explanation given by the principal, these students are identified as those who are more suited for structured learning. They will be able to do very well for O-levels given the proper guidance from the teachers. That's why the school gives them this option to do O-levels instead.


So it's not so much of \"drop out\". At least, I think the school cares enough for these students to have teachers specially prepare them for O-levels.

So some parents here have accurately pointed out that the demand for IP curriculum is very different. Really needs to be independent and have constant quest for knowledge.

I remember HCI's principal shared with parents during the open house last year that there were about 17 of them who was offered the O level route that year. According to him, most have reasons other than simply not being able to cope. Eg. Some have parents in the process of divorcing from each other & he believes this affects the child. He even jokingly urged the men the audience to love their wife more & build a happy family so that their sons can concentrate on their studies! :lol:

I do hear from the grapevine that some IP students do drop out and asked to be transfered to other schools. I have yet to find out how many in RI do not proceed to RI(JC). Not sure if the school will release such info.

Not sure if the school will release such info.[/quote]I came across one of my neighbour's son got into RI thru Music DSA but only stayed for 1 year, and then transferred to a neighbourhood sec sch. My friend's son (from GEP) is still there, said she has to send the son for home tuition for most subjects as the school \"don't teach\". :?
