[Geylang] Primary Schools

Anyone still remember what was the chance for 1-2km for Geylang Methodist Pri last year?
-
Doing the maths on KH Phase 2B balloting:
- 56 registrants for the 47 vacancies are within 1km. 56-47=9 set of parents will be disappointed this Friday.
- There are 69-56 = 13 registrants outside 1km,
I’m within 1km. Let’s say if I’m unlucky on this Friday balloting and I choose to go into Phase 2C balloting with KH.
Since balloting is prioritised purely on distance, and I’m within 1km, will I now stand a higher chance for one of the Phase 2C’s 47 places?
The reason why I think so is I’m likely to be competing against the "8 other unsuccessful Phase 2B registrants in 1km range" + "other new registrants in 1km range" + "13 Phase 2B registrants outside 1km range" + "other new registrants outside 1km".
I mean - the number of 1km registrants should surely have been greatly reduced by the time we go into Phase 2C, and most of them would be outside 1km. Surely, we should not be seeing another 56 1km registrants vying for the 47 Phase 2C places, right?
Against all the anxiety and nervousness, I’m trying to look at the bright side. -
numeric:
If you see their past yr history, we could be expecting like 80-90 applicants under 2C this year as based on 2010 data, there were 80 within 1km balloting for 52 seats.Doing the maths on KH Phase 2B balloting:

Hi Chief,
Your comments abt. KH confirmed the feedback I’ve gathered from friends whose kiddos are in KH i.e. homework-intensive & uninteresting CCAs (save for badminton or table-tennis, which I think should be one of their strengths, no?).
I’ll be registering my fraternal twins for P1 next year ('06 batch). Now the dilemma is this - DH is an old boy of KH, and we both stay within 1 km of Tao Nan, and so do my parents who live in the neighbouring block. As my parents are the main caregivers of my kids, with my dad taking them to and fetching them back from school (currently kindergarten), naturally, the most ideal option is TNS. However, I’m well-aware about know how horrendous and heart-pulsating registration (2B or 2C phases - I’m a SHHK member) at TNS. If we were to opt for KH, it will be a shoo-in, no doubt abt that. But going back to my first point, KH emphasizes on a lot of homework (heard from some church frens that the load could be higher than TNS’s), over which I don’t wish to stress my kiddos and me. Moreover, I don’t think their CCAs are particularly exciting (compared to TNS’s).
So…what would your advice be? Should I avoid the unnecessary stress by registering for KH (but inconveniencing my parents) OR hope for the best that SHHK will issue me a recommendation letter (I joined SHHK in 2007, but only just started volunterring a couple of months back), then pray hard that I will be successful with the balloting in phase 2B?
Just entertaining a wild thought - could I reg. for KH at Phase 2A(1), get the slot, then register at TNS at Phase 2B (assuming SHHK issues letter), and if successful, withdraw from KH?
Thanks! -

You can only apply with TNS AFTER you withdraw from KH.
You cannot have a piece of cake and eat it. -

Yes, you have to GIVE UP your place in KH before you can take a chance at TNS so if you don't win the ballot at TNS. You lose BOTH places.Arielyn:

I suggest you think carefully before you decide.
Good luck! -
once you give up your KH seat in order to register for TNS, rightaway your KH seat is gone, given to someone else next in the queue waiting anxiously for that precious KH seat.
if you manage to ballot successfully for TNS, then fine & congrats to you!
if not, you won’t get back your KH seat anymore, because someone else is now occupying the KH seat that you’d chosen to give up. -
Thanks, KGMs and OrangeBelt. Guess I had better stick to KH then....It's not that inferior a school compared to TNS, yes? Sorry, hope nobody finds my qn offensive  cos' growing up in the MP area, I've only heard good stuff abt TNS, but not so much abt KH.

I’m torn between sending my son to Geylang Methodist Pri (GMPS) or Tanjong Katong Pri (TKPS). Recently heard from a relative’s son that he doesn’t like to study in TKPS. According to him, there are many bullies in his class. His class has more non-Chinese than Chinese. He feels very uncomfortable in that school environment. He is now pestering his parents to transfer him back to his previous school (he was transferred from another Pri Sch to TKPS when the parents bought an apartment in Katong one year ago).
TKPS is within 1 km from my house and GMPS is within 2 km. My chance would be higher if I register my boy in TKPS but I’m worry especially after hearing the feedback. I would like to try for GMPS but there are two concerns: 1) I might need to ballot for a place. That means, higher risk. 2) I’m not a Christian. Will there be any concern? I would appreciate if someone could give me some advice. Thanks
