Hi, I am Susan's friend. The one she mentioned in her post...
My girl is at Tampines North Primary Sch P1. Like all of you, I was having headache in deciding which School to enrol her last year.
I used to prefer Gongshan to Tampines North for many personal reasons. As, GS is jus two to three blocks away from my place, I assumed that there should not be any problem enrolling my girl into the School. I remembered I kept telling my girl how good the School is, hoping she would fall in love with her \"School-to-be\".
However, we were not balloted for a place at GS. The next choices available were Tampines Primary, ChongZheng, Yumin and Tampines North Primary. Since Tampines North is the next nearest to my place, to my dismay, we proceeded to Tampines North. The moment I stepped into the place, my impression of the School changed. The environment is very spacious and friendly with many attractive and most importantly non threatening corners for students.
Tampines North has got PAL program for the P1 and P2. The P1 and 2 are in the afternoon session. They have to be in School half an hour earlier 4 days a week in order to execute the program (under the syllabus). Next year, the School will be singled session.
My girl is very pleased with her School. She loves and is proud to be student of Tampines North Pri Sch. I would say that my girl has got rather strong foundation academically. I am sure she would have no problem in keeping up with the syllabus should she got in to GS. Currently in Tampines North, she is taking \"in depth\" syllabus of MT. As for those weaker students, there are few special programs for them to catch up with the syllabus.
I have learnt that getting into a suitable School with pleasant environment to keep a child's interest in learnng is so much more important than solely looking into whether the School can produce how many PSLE scholars.
Many friends of mine suggested me to put my girl in GS' waiting list. But my girl said she doesn't want to. She even made this comment,\" mummy, Tampines North is such a nice School. Why do we need to go to GS?\"

thank you so much for the feedback on TN
now i have a clearer insight of the school.
in fact, i am hearing more positive than negative feedbacks now compared to 4 yrs ago before i enrolled my DS for P1.
many ppl were telling me not to, that is why i put him in NA which is so far away
so from next yr onwards, all P1 will be in morning session?
i will seriously consider over TN. still have 1 more week to go... -
Hi chloecube,
Yes my son attends the science enrichment. I will ask him later when he gets back.
He takes school bus. I seldom appear at school.
So you intend to apply for tnps? No more trying for gs.
CZ is a hottie at my side, so decided not to try for it. -

i just called TN to check the timing of P1 next yr, but they have yet to finalise it yet.
i have an issue here, DS is in morning session, school in NA. if i enroll DD in TN which is also in the morning session. my maid will have problem fetching both back in different school.
my maid needs 1hr to travel from tampines to NA, by the time she comes back to tampines, she may miss the timing to fetch my DD.
:faint: timing is my biggest concern..
as for GS, i understand the P1 is in the afternoon, i also need to check on the timing. let's say DD manage to get a place in GS, my maid must ahve enough time to bring her to school and then travel to NA to fetch DS back...heachache..
i was telling my DH abt this, he said to save the trouble, just put both in same school which is NA.
if DD goes to NA, then we have another 6 yrs of travelling up and down from tampines to Marine Parade..
my 2nd SIL's 2 son are in CZ..but i am not trying for CZ cos need balloting too rite? -
just for info,i just called GS.
P1 is afternoon session, timing : 12.15pm - 6pm. (may have changes in 2012) -
