In Japan, the weather is cool and people do not sweat and stink so much. But in our weather, imagine squeezing like the picture above and your nose is just under somebody armpit in a hot sweaty day?

Isn't a loss-making nationalised company basically receiving a subsidy from the tax-payer? We speak about non-profit. Tell me, how easy is it to hit exactly cost/revenue-neutral every single year for a company of SMRT size? Some years you will be up, some years you will be down, that is the nature of running a business (and yes, non-profits are businesses too). So what's wrong with setting the baseline at above zero?

Yup. They do squeeze people into the train. For some not so crowded stations, they put station masters to supervise during peak hrs.


Which is why I strongly encourage those who say ok to increase fare to take train for a week. Then come and say, if it’s justifiable to increase fare or not.

There is only 1 provider, if u dun take train, then take what?

There are plenty of things for which I have to pay more today for the same amount or less. 1 litre of petrol gets me the same distance today as 3 years ago, but costs me 25% more. Yes, I would love if my car engine was a bioreactor that I could pluck leaves from the tree outside and stick it into a tank, but it is not so I have no choice but to use petrol.

I think PTC will not approve the fare increase this round, since the companies are still profitable, inflation hitting the mass population are already quite bad and the uncertainties in economy.
