Is it very difficult to be RGPS volunteer?
-
for P2B:
those staying <1km & between 1-2km, skip balloting.
straightaway their kids' names got captured, entered & stored into our school's computer P1 registration database.
today, balloting 2.30 pm was for >2km, inside AVA room.
for >2km, remaining only 29 vac left.
but 36 parents competing for 29 vac.
out of these 36 - only 1 PR, the rest Singapore citizens.
balloting starting soon ... heart pounding fast.
husband & wife entered in two by twos, sat down, held & gripped each other hands tightly. Some came alone, some supported by friends.
Principal first gave a short brief introduction / message, Thanking all Parent Volunteers (PVs) for their precious time, effort and contribution made to the school.
then the names of each kid was read out before a microphone, the child's name flashed onto a big, overhead projector, for parents to verify.
as each name is being read out, a small white piece of paper containing the child's name was folded up, then placed into a big, square, high, Transparent 'Lucky draw' box, for everyone to see contents inside.
for Singapore citizens - 2 slips of paper containing child's name were dropped into the box.
for PRs - only 1 slip of paper dropped.
then shake the box ... Shake, Shake, Shake, Shake real hard !
2 guests of honor were invited to come forward, start to draw lots.
as each child's name is being called out, they hang up the slip onto the next big, white board. This white board going to contain 29 successful names drawn.
if the same child's name had been drawn before, then they will draw another fresh new name again.
as each child's name is being called out, you can hear sounds of joy squealing with delight & happiness in the background. Some hugged each other. What a great relief!
finally they announce - last name to be drawn ... nerve wrecking, nails biting!
luckily the mother of the last one was alert, wide awake, not sleeping!
Mother's love is the greatest.
because this last name - the Chinese name of the child happen to be... very, very similar to another child's name that had been called out earlier on. They were about to redraw another fresh new child's name, when the mother shouted in time 'No, my child not in yet. Stop! '.
lesson learnt ... at least one parent must go down to witness the balloting, be alert. Cannot assume let the school do balloting, no hickup. If this parent din go down and the mother din shout 'Stop' in the nick of time, they would have drawn another fresh new name, then this poor kid would have been bypassed, when she actually got in!
P was sympathetic towards 7 not successful.
P asked them to try P2C, find a school under P2C to hang onto first.
at the same time - fill up RGPS wait list form, write down remarks in the form that you are a PV before.
should there be any movement around end of the year like withdrawal or LOA (leave of absence), PVs usually given priority since they contributed much to the school.
another time when likely to have movement again is around Primary 3, during re-org of classes from 30 into 40. -
If the school realise they have made an error, will they let both kids in?
-
dun know, not sure.
but P2C, be alert on balloting day.
better sit in front, so that you can see & hear clearer.
next yr 2013 P1 intake - is it 270 or 240, P also not sure.
only MOE has this info. perhaps PVs for 2013 - those >2km can ring up MOE to check ? -
after all 29 names were called out and hung up onto the white board, some parents came forward, used handphone took photo of that very precious white slip hung there, with their precious child’s name printed on it.
keep as souvenir memory, or paste into a photo album, to reflect part of their child’s growing up life passage journey history - ie. explain how the child manage to enter Primary 1, RGPS. It’s via lucky draw balloting on 22 July 2011.
btw for P2C balloting, try not to bring your child there.
because it is very sad & heart wrenching to hear an enthusastic child keep asking ‘Mommy, did i get in ? did the school call out my name ?’ - esp. if this child wasn’t balloted. -
future PVs for (P1 2013, 2014), pls read this:-

dear 7 unballoted PVs from P2B:-
do not despair. All hope is not lost yet.
I feel painful for you too.
yesterday, was there witnessing the scene of balloting.
I strongly believe that one day your daughter will return and eventually join back RGPS... it's only a matter of time. But as what our P suggested, go under P2C next week, quickly grab a school and hang onto first.
at the same time, fill up the wait list form. Indicate clearly that you had been a PV before. Based on the kind contribution effort you'd put in, i believe should there be any movement, our school will place your child in high priority before others.
meanwhile, sincerely wishing you and yr beloved daughter all the very best in your P2c next week, from the bottom of my heart ! -
dear future PVs (2013, 2014 onwards), you may read this before you even apply for PV in any school:-

smurfynut:
KSP you are absolutely right, the school was unable to provide the information on the above. Unfortunately I am not within 2km, in fact, quite a number of us current PVs are not. Hope that there will be no balloting next year...
do u know how many PVs are there? if there are 40 and the intake remains the same then u might stand a good chance..... if the school intake reduces to 240 then 30 PVs should be a good number.....
i still think the PV committee has some advance info of the school intake for them to control the number of PV so that to avoid disappointment later on.... -
phtthp:
yes, there were more than 7 transferred out during my dd P1 year..... the reason was these parents also wait list other schools and when their turn came they transferred their child out .....dear 7 unballoted PVs from P2B:-

for some may be curious which schools can attract them.... the 2 schools which i know of are MGS and SCGS......
for those who are in the first few in the RGPS wait list, u stand a very good chance within the first 3mths next year..... then u need to get new uniforms for your child :celebrate: .....
