If our public transport is such efficient, then why so many people still buy cars when the COEs are such incredibly high?

Because they r rich :?

Hi all,

though this discussion sometimes deviate sideways from the headlined topic, it is still very interesting to hear both extreme views as well.

If the PTC invites the public to share their views, I think some of the forumers here are more than capable of providing the ammunitions for discussion

1st Tan to comment on this issue, maybe if the other 3 President hopeful Tans also chipped in................

You are right! But in Europe, at least you have a choice! You want to go from one place to another you can take company train A or company train B, you have a choice.

SMRT and SBST do not introduce new bus routes. They do not plan bus routes. They only manage frequency and bus deployments of EXISTING routes. Thus whether or not you have a choice is entirely up to LTA to decide as they are the ones who create the routes. Why do

es SMRT and SBST have to take the blame for something they cannot control?

Didnt know they dun plan bus routes...ever feedback to them that my place
got only 2 buses tat travel the same route .. Now I know y they never reply šŸ˜† šŸ˜†
SMRT manages the bus deployments so they're supposed to reply. However given the experience with many feedback emails they don't usually do anything. By the way, are you living in Bt panjang? I know feeder 922 only had 2 buses.

I always find TKL to be trying a little too hard to champion the \"people's\" view. I would be happy if he is really sincere about solving the problem and not doing this just to bolster his presidential bid's chances.

Then again, this is politics. Who am I kidding?

Then again, this is politics. Who am I kidding?
While walking down the street one day a US senator is tragically hit by a truck and dies.
His soul arrives in heaven and is met by St. Peter at the entrance.
'Welcome to heaven,' says St. Peter. 'Before you settle in, it seems there is a problem. We seldom see a high official around these parts, you see, so we're not sure what to do with you.'
'No problem, just let me in,' says the man.
'Well, I'd like to, but I have orders from higher up. What we'll do is have you spend one day in hell and one in heaven. Then you can choose where to spend eternity.'
'Really, I've made up my mind. I want to be in heaven,' says the senator.
'I'm sorry, but we have our rules.'
And with that, St. Peter escorts him to the elevator and he goes down, down, down to hell. The doors open and he finds himself in the middle of a green golf course. In the distance is a clubhouse and standing in front of it are all his friends and other politicians who had worked with him.
Everyone is very happy and in evening dress. They run to greet him, shake his hand, and reminisce about the good times they had while getting rich at the expense of the people.
They play a friendly game of golf and then dine on lobster, caviar and champagne.
Also present is the devil, who really is a very friendly & nice guy who has a good time dancing and telling jokes. They are having such a good time that before he realizes it, it is time to go.
Everyone gives him a hearty farewell and waves while the elevator rises...
The elevator goes up, up, up and the door reopens on heaven where St. Peter is waiting for him.
'Now it's time to visit heaven.'
So, 24 hours pass with the senator joining a group of contented souls moving from cloud to cloud, playing the harp and singing. They have a good time and, before he realizes it, the 24 hours have gone by and St. Peter returns.
'Well, then, you've spent a day in hell and another in heaven. Now choose your eternity.'
The senator reflects for a minute, then he answers: 'Well, I would never have said it before, I mean heaven has been delightful, but I think I would be better off in hell.'
So St. Peter escorts him to the elevator and he goes down, down, down to hell.
Now the doors of the elevator open and he's in the middle of a barren land covered with waste and garbage.
He sees all his friends, dressed in rags, picking up the trash and putting it in black bags as more trash falls from above.
The devil comes over to him and puts his arm around his shoulder. 'I don't understand,' stammers the senator. 'Yesterday I was here and there was a golf course and clubhouse, and we ate lobster and caviar, drank champagne, and danced and had a great time. Now there's just a wasteland full of garbage and my friends look miserable.
What happened?'
The devil looks at him, smiles and says, 'Yesterday we were campaigning.. ..

Today you voted.'

the sad case is, even when they been through the trash collecting in the dumpsters, many still fall for the same ruse when candy is given out occassionally. šŸ˜† šŸ˜†
since when anyone said about wanting any company to be \"loss-making\" ? :?

There is an implicit yearning of subsidies for the services they receive. They believe these services can be run as non-profit organisations and still be as cost effective as ever. The first response is if it is possible, then show me. I would say that if we follow the same reasoning, then shouldn't we argue for the nationalisation of almost all businesses and services? Then all the needy people will get cheaper food, clothings, transport etc etc etc....

Is SBS making a loss before it was privatized?

Were there resentment and complains of SBS b4 it was privatized?
I am also keen to know. There used to be TransIland too.

Does this happen on our trains?

Patience Chief. It will be soon, very soon, I think.

The peak hour I normally experience is in the evening when people get off from work. Recently, I took the morning peak hour train with my son and he had a shock at the pace people were rushing. I had to \"shield\" him in case he got run down. Historically, Europe's been ahead of us, so I won't be surprised if we are seeing our future in this video.
