And therefore the child will feel more motivated.
Brenda, Janet and Linden... Yeah!!

I don't mind principals or teachers reading (better still if someone from MOE)...bcos we are really voicing out concerns at our end...it would be GREAT if teachers understand what headaches we parents are facing. These concerns are objective and not offensive to anyone.

Exactly! Many people not in our boat still assume that it's parents like us that place pressure on the kids to perform. Hallo? That is so last century!!
Play is a child's opium. When they are going through pain, they wanna escape into play. If you and I were still kids, we would do the same.
Parents NOT in our boats (yet) assume WE give kids pressure. On the contrary, I think many of us have slowed down bcos the schools are doing that...it cannot be a 2 side push or the kids will jump off the cliff.
When my son is stressed, he will play with his toys and pretend to be the hero defeating enemies.

My son at P5 still lives for those 'excellent' stickers pasted in his spelling/ting xie. I have bought stamps with 'improved', 'well-done' to boost his motivation.

I wish there was a list that ranked schools in the way I would value, based on these scales:

            - build or kill self-esteem
            - motivate or humiliate
            - teach or prescribe (external) tutors

Perhaps that why when dd back after supplementary class the first thing she want is to have some makan then follow by either playing, reading or watching cartoon show.

After suppl class (Tue/Thur), he is very hungry and can really eat...and the time is 4pm !!! I've left those 2 evenings free for him to get school hw done. Just revised his weekly schedule...he gets to swim every Sat evening and I get to do nothing but just sit there to see him splash water. :imcool:

I now know why DS has been given 1 compo a week lately. His file was just collected for checking by the HOD and VP. When files are collected for checking, it’s the school’s way of vetting the teacher’s work. DS’ teacher must be making up for lost time!!

you know it’s too good to be true when the teachers changes their attitude. In any organization, there must be checks to ensure quality. At least the school has a good Principle that enforces teaching quality through checks. I’m sure the HOD was also forced by the Principle to check the teachers.
