Can anybody help me?

Jane bought some pizzas for her friends. Her girl friends received twice as many as her boy friends. She has an equal number of girl and boy friends. Each boy friend ate 4/7 of a pizza and they finished all the pizza given to them.
Each girl friend ate 1/3 of a pizza and they had 8 1/2 pizza left. How many pizza did Jane buy?

Hi

ratio of number of pizzas eaten by boys : number of pizzas eaten by girls
= 4/7 : 1/3
= 12u : 7u

The girls had twice the number of pizzas the boys had, so total number of pizzas the girls had = 2 x 12u = 24u

24u - 7u = 8.5 pizzas
17u = 8.5 pizzas
1u = 0.5 pizza

Total number of pizza = 12 u + 24u = 36u = 36 x 0.5 = 18 pizzas

cheers.

Thanks. can help the following q?

There are more toys in container x and container y. 30% of the toys in container x is more than 40% of the toys in container Y. If 50% of the toys in Container X is transferred into container Y, there will be 300 more toys in Container X and than Y.

a) How many percent more toys are there in Container X and Container Y?
b) How many toys are there in Container Y?
Hi

pls check question - some information is missing eg how much is 30% of x more than 40% of y and after transferring 1/2 of X into Y, X cannot have more toys than Y because container Y would have 1/2 X + Y

cheers.

B : SJ … S : BJ

3 : 5 … 1 : 5

The total units for BSJ must be the same. Common multiple for 8 and 6 is 24.
So the new ratio is
B : SJ … S : BJ
9 : 15 … 4 : 20

B = 9u so J = 20u - 9u = 11u
2u = $20
24u = $20 x 12
= $240

Hi mrchew,

Thank you for working out the sum.
I forgot that ratio can be used and kept drawing models. The more I drew, the more confused we get 🙂

P5 Question:

In a Mathematics quiz, pupils who answered each question correctly will be awarded some points according to the topic related as shown in the table below:

Topics Points Awarded
Fractions 3 points
Geometry 4 points
Volume 5 points
Percentage 6 points

The number of questions on Fractions, Geometry, Volume and Percentage were in the ratio 5:4:3:2 respectively. Weiling answered all the quiz questions on Fractions and Geometry correctly, but she had got only 1/3 of the questions on Volume correct and scored 0 for questions on Percentage. If Weilling scored 108 points for her quiz,

a) how many questions on Percentage were there in the quiz?
b) How many questions were there in the quiz?

Pls help on thsi question, Tks
