      Superbugs:
      P5 question:

The ratio of Sammy's age t Peter's age is 10:7. In 8 years' time, the ratio will become 4:3. What is Sammy's age now?

      Appreciate help. Tks
      Hi

For problem sums related to age, one key consideration is that the age difference will remain the same.

      Age ratio now, Sammy : Peter = 10u: 7u
      Age ratio 8 years' time, Sammy : Peter = 4 : 3 = 12u : 9u (multiply 3 to make difference 3u)

      So, 12u - 10u = 2u = 8, 1u = 4

      Sammy's age now = 10u = 40 years old.

      cheers.

        Superbugs:
        P5 question:

The average mass of a group of pupils was 28kg. When Mr Lim measured and recorded the mass of these pupils, he wrongly recorded one pupil's weight as 53kg when it should be 35kg. As a result, the average weight of the pupils was recorded as 29kg. How many pupils were there?

Need help on the above question. Tks
        Hi

        Weight added to total due to wrong recording = 53 - 35 = 18kg
        Increase in average weight due to this error = 29 - 28 = 1kg

        So, total number of pupils = 18/1 = 18
        There were 18 pupils.

        cheers.

In a Mathematics quiz, pupils who answered each question correctly will be awarded some points according to the topic related as shown in the table below:

          Topics Points Awarded
          Fractions 3 points
          Geometry 4 points
          Volume 5 points
          Percentage 6 points

The number of questions on Fractions, Geometry, Volume and Percentage were in the ratio 5:4:3:2 respectively. Weiling answered all the quiz questions on Volume correct and scored 0 for questions on Percentage. If Weilling scored 108 points for her quiz,

          a) how many questions on Percentage were there in the quiz?
          b) How many questions were there in the quiz?

              Help me on this question

The cost of fuel to propel a boat through the water (in dollars per hour) is proportional to the cube of the speed. A certain ferry boat
uses $100 worth of fuel per hour when cruising at 10 kilometers per hour.
Apart from fuel, the cost of running this ferry is $675 per hour. At what speed should it travel so as to
minimize the cost per kilometer traveled?

Sorry I am not able to upload the diagram. Basically it's overlapping squares and the shaded area is 40%, i.e 60% - 20%. 20% is part of 60%.

                      Hi

Number of questions on Fractions, Geometry, Volume and Percentage were in the ratio
                      5u : 4u : 3u : 2u

                      Total number of points
                      = 5u x 3 + 4u x 4 + 1/3 x 3u x 5
                      = 15u + 16u + 5u
                      = 36u
                      = 108

                      1u = 3

                      a) Number of questions on Percentage = 2u = 6
                      b) Total number of questions = 5u + 4u + 3u + 2u = 14u = 14 x 3 = 42

No new info were provided for the other two questions - areas of 3 squares and the one on Container X and Y.

                      cheers.
