another thing to share abt MFS. recently, there were chicken pox outbreak at my DD Childcare. parents are informed that all enrichment classes are cancelled for July. and fees will be refunded for the month of July. i think only MFS can do that. usually, if there is such outbreak, parents still continue to pay for enrichment classes and child may be sick and cannot attend too.. at least they are considerate and help parents save 1 mth of enrichment classes fees which is 100 over (3 classes a week)

Which centre your DD CC is? The cancellation is more than 1 month? As I know, if they cancel one class, they will replace with another one, no refund of fees.

CV3 at sengkang. initially, the enrichment classes are being \"postponed\" for 2 weeks. then i think either the teacher or principle took the initiative to cancel the enrichment classes for the entire month instead, as it's hard to make-up classes if it's too many weeks. 2 weeks means they need to cater for 6 days of make-up classes.. as each weeks there are 3 different enrichment classes, kindermusic, apple pie & kidsIQ.
Sounds logic and thoughtful of the principal. Dun think others will be as thoughtful as yours. Lucky you !!

        hi shirley,

i ever asked my DD (nursery) english teacher before on spelling thingy,. she said spelling is not enforce in the class as spelling is not a good method to teach a language, as from their research, students who are good in spelling may not know how to use the words in sentences. thus, they enforce english literacy ( reading ).

        Im fine with that actually.
        Hi micollh

Oh,,u mean their k1/k2 no spelling at all huh,,,hmm,,,then i am worried,,,cos Pri 1 also need to noe spelling rite?...does ur DD noe how to spell any words??. even after the literacy thing??

tt's what the teacher told me. I think Primary school has spelling but not sure about the syllabus.

my DD is learning to read now, picking up. The literacy is not meant to spell. it's for them to recognise words and then know how to use the words in sentences.

Thanks for sharing. i was told han yu ping ying only comes in at seocnd half of K2 for MFS.

Is it something we should worry about ? no spelling? no maths(i need to check with DD teacher on this, as from the 3 mthly updates, they are being introduced maths concepts)

MFS does not have english/chinese spelling not even han yu pin yin. They only teach "sheng mu" as I understand and do not emphasize on pin yin.

My son learnt phronics in nursery (but later part of the year). Actually different centre offers different curriculum. EVen littleskoolhouse which is under the same parent company does not offer spelling as well though they are comparable with cherie hearts or other premium schools.

I am not sure if other child care of comparable school fees like MFS gives spelling/han yu pin yin. As my friends alway say, you pay peanut you get peanut.
