I would say it depends on what you are emphasising.Which sentence is correct/better?
1. Every Sunday, I go for a swim.
2. I go for a swim every Sunday.
1 - is the answer to \"what do you do on Sundays?\"

Personally, I would think Option 2 would sound better.

Hello janet_lee88
I hope you are well.
I have a question to ask you about the EPH "Complete Practice Book for Grammar, Vocabulary & Comprehension", please/
DS1 is now about to start using P4. I have decided that instead of choosing the MCQ answers that I will type out the 10 questions in each exercise, and use a list of the 10 answers, so that he can write out each sentence and choose from one of the 10 words…doing this until he finishes the 10th and last question.
He gets the questions virtually all correct normally, but his writing is not as good as it should be. My questions to you are:
1. Do I type out the 10 questions and 10 answers for him to choose from. He will then write these questions out and improve his writing. He off course has only 10 missing words to look up in the dictionary.
2. Or do I get him to refer to the book, and write out each questions and look up the dictionary meanings of the 4 MCQ responses. This is more time consuming for him and could disenfranchise him.
I would prefer option 1, but what are your thoughts, please? Am I wrong in limited his research of 40 MCQ word options to 10 for each exercise and will it hinder his vocabulary acquisition, greatly?
PS, I may also use this ploy with DS2 who has just started on the P1 book.
Regards

HI optimistforum,
Sorry for the delay.
Think I’ve replied you via PM.
I was coaching my girl for Comprehension OE last night using Conquer Comprehension. She has summative assessment this month, so a bit kancheong to ramp up her subjects. -
Hi janet_lees88
Thanks I got the pm. One thing to you and other posters, are there any English assessment books on comprehension with more than 5 questions per passage - for P3 and upwards.

Hi
I need advice on working with DS2. He turned 6 in July, and I have been using the EPH Comjplete Practice in Vocab, Grammar and Comprehension Book P1 with him.
He is scoring a pitiful 3 out of 8 in vocab MCQ exercises. I have decided to to do the exercises with him, as a fun xercise at bedtime so that he can complete them himself the following day. Is this the right way to reinforce vocab learning, or am I helping him too much? He is a slow learner, but a free and slow reader.

I'd suggest reading a storybook and teaching him vocab based on the book. Young children ultimately still prefer looking at pictures to words. It's better to get a book with nice illustrations to help stimulate his interest in reading, which will in turn help him to gain new vocabulary.Hi

Another important point to note is whether your DS is able to apply the new words he has learnt by using them to make sentences. From experience, I find that students are more likely to use the words correctly if they have a story or article as a reference point. You can also help him further by teaching him about the words using daily experiences that he can relate to.
For the children who spent time practising vocab exercises or who were made to memorise long lists of vocab words without any story as background, yes, they may know many vocab words, but often, they end up using the words incorrectly. -
Hi Mdm Koh
Good point. I will ensure that he reads everyday throughout teh summers holidays.
