and to activate something to the current situation, before it worsen ? -
Maybe Chief can post our forum link to his facebook?

I would like to ask if you put your name in the waiting list for the school, in what circumstances that the school will grant you a place? Please kindly advise.
This is what I wrote in too previously. By what way the schools choose who come first from the long waiting lists. This is another next important issues too.

Phase 1-2C should be reserved for Singaporeans. Even with 2 balloting slips for us, there is no guarantee the kids will get in. When PRs are allowed to be in same phase as Singaporeans, they will enjoy Phase 1 once the name is drawn. If govt still wants to give priority to PRs, cap it.Even though Singaporeans have an extra slip more than PR, it still does not put Singaporean having more priority than PR. When you are lucky, you are just lucky to be drawn. If PR is allowed to have the same priority in the same phase with S'porean, then cap the percentage of PR in each phase.
I am sure all of us hope that the new Minister of Education, Mr Heng can do something to change the out-dated registration system for the better otherwise it is just a time bomb waiting to explode! -
I think it is difficult to abolish the alumni phase completely. I agree that most of the alumni are inactive in their alma mater but I do know of cases where two or three generations are already from the same school and two generations (mother and daughter) still active in the school. The system cannot deny these people who are still contributing to the schools. One way is for the schools or alumni to identify who are the active alumni, just like how the schools identify the qualify PVs and how PA identify the qualify GRLs.

But I just don't see the logic - how can just because our parents have studied in the school, it gives the priority to the current generation. This is regardless whether they are active or inactive alumni. It is no longer an equal level playing field. In another way of putting it, if our parents did something wrong, is the fault continue to lie & stay with our children? -

Hi JR, this is exactly the same points I have raised in the \"Opinion of the Primary School Registration System\". I think you have meant Phase 2A for the alumni as Phase 1 is for existing siblings. For parents (A) whose kids just stay 5 mins walk to the school are unable to go to the school as most places have been snatched by the alumni (parent B) which are currently staying half an hour from the school. In return, the parents (A) would have to ferry their kids to another school which possibly is half an hour drive to the second school of choice. We are just going merry around the circle !!I read all the news about Primary One registration with interest. Having gone through balloting for my son last year (luckily it was successful!) I can feel for all those involved this year. So good luck to you.
I am not sure this has been discussed before. But I really wonder if the new Minister of Education is going to review the policy on registration for Primary One. To think that there are children who do not get to the Primary school which is just a five minutes walk from their home just does not seem right. Because of \"luck\" of the ballot, the child have to endure longer distance from home for the next 6 years. That's sad.
I don't foresee the situation to improve soon if the system of registration remain the same. In fact it will get worst. The registration in Phase 1 will continue to rise as the alumini for the popular primary school increase year by year. It might come a stage of balloting for Phase One! I know it will be very tricky to change such a system since it has been entrenched.
I just wonder if we should leave this as it is or would there be a review to ensure children who live very close to the school does get to be in school without the waste in time and money in travelling to and fro from school. -

When I say the alumni are still active in schools, I mean they are still contributing actively in the schools, such as chairing the fund raising event, organizing an annual function for the school, sitting in the exco of the alumni. Their contributions are no less than the PVs. The system cannot deny this group of alumni and their contributions. -
I have always wonder why does a parent get priority just because he/she attended the school years ago… Is their contribution greater than that of the PVs?
