What do I want from my policy makers?
-
Musings:
3 boys, totally agree. Unfortunately Spore is headed down the US route which is fragmented and policies are determined by which lobby group is stronger. A US friend explained that where he stay is full of retirees so they refuse to vote in favour of policies to build new schools or school facilities or raise teacher salaries. So educational standards differ greatly across the state. The current govt has no choice but to listen to people's demands to stay in power - but proppe's demands are typically motivated by self interest - policies decided in this can never be in the interest of the nation.
:goodpost:
3boys, yes, do realised that we are in the minority
Fortunately, DH holds similar belief as I do and that to me is already a blessing. -

cwc ...agree ....the other people group have some choice and know how and can make and work around the policy to improved their lot......
I want the above.3Boys:
-- firm and decisive and get on with things,
-- willing to go along with difficult decisions for the greater good
I want a good strong Singapore for my children, I think this compact between citizens and policy-makers is key, and both sides have a responsibility in this.
I find it a little troubling & worrying cos there seems to be too much of \"me, I, mine, I want, I am entitled, not enough - I want more\". Think the real people who really need more help are really the lower income people....... -
3Boys:
You might be in the minority, unfortunately. Everybody is an armchair minister these days.[/quote]Armchair minister :spank: .....definitely 3boys .....

we do have some now cast in option 4 --- until all votes are cast in option 4Interesting, was wondering when someone would pick option 4....:)
3boys :boogie: SG citizenry will have truly arrived .....
armchair minister will a thing of the past  -
cwc, kiddo, musings,
thanks for your comments. It is worrisome, Singapore seems to be traversing that same arc of development->complacency->decline that describes many nation states, except on an accelerated timeline!
Problem is, if we go bankrupt, we are basically done for, we won’t rise from the ashes like China. -
I wonder if this poll is a spillover from the vigor from the P1 registration debate that has been raging on whole week. I know what I want from policy makers. I also know that human beings respond to incentives instinctively - and policy makers are human beings. This is my biggest worry.

Mark, you know I do battle on more than 1 issue at a time on KSP
Policy makers do respond to incentives, but I guess their incentives are more broad based and long term, as opposed to the more narrow and immediate ones that confront us on a day to day basis. -
I want them to step down n let me make the policy :rotflmao: :rotflmao:

Is foreign aid a good use of national funds?

Ha ha....3boys, you & my DH said the same stuff just using different wordings. Frankly, I am concerned with the big waves of negative vibes against the government/policy makers. To me, I still believe that the majority are enjoying the fruits and benefits, we just need to be more contented. It's important to 'fight' for the lesser-off first, but later for the 'have-enough-but-i-want-more'.cwc, kiddo, musings,

Completely agree. I feel particularly miffed when the latter 'Have-enough' group hijacks the agenda of the 'lesser-off, grandma in JB home' group to further their own efforts in gouging more from the g'ment. Aid needs to be focused, not diluted.
