Hi Barney. sorry i offered stale opinion. :oops: Anyway, good u landed a place in Elias Park. Its pretty good school in Pasir Ris Estate. Btw, me a bit surprised that Poi Ching is so hot this year.


I side track abit. Chief Kiasu, can i ask for your opinion on the relative performance of the 3 schools - Poi Ching, Gong Shang and Pasir Ris Primary? I am not looking at the no of top PSLE students generated, but rather sentiments at the ground on the relative performance of the 3 schools? If not, confining to your opinion, what is your take on the 3 schools?

Thanks KT and chief for the respond, though it did come too late. Anyway the situation in Poi Ching made my decision easier, Poi Ching requires balloting for within 1 km, hence no chance at all for me to register since I'm within 1-2 km....haiz, must be those parents eyeing for St Hilda's switched base over to Poi Ching, it really didn't help that both schools are near each other and fall within 1 km for many households in Tampines.

So my child has been confirmed a place at Elias Park, good to say that the whole P1 registration thingy is over for me now....with the primary education for my girl just begun.

Hi fellow parents, here's my 2 cts worth.

It's good for parents to plan for their kids and every parents wants to get their kids into the best possible schools. I felt that we shouldnt agonize over the decision. Why I say so?
1) We must realize that it's only a plan, how the kids perform in the school remain to be seen
2) Even in neighboorhood schools, I understand that there are differentiation in performance, kids are grouped into different classes and taught at different paces with different exposures. So a child in the top classes could possibly be better (in performance) than say the lower classes in St Hilda e.g.
3) Some of my kids' classmates switch school from Elias Park to St Hilda at P3 and my fren's daughter switched to RGPS at P4. It's an illustration of (2) above and also indicates that some kids couldnt cope with these top school and have to drop out.

So my point is dun fret, your kids can still perform well in neighbourhood schools and switch to the desired ones later.

I believe being part of this forum and checking it actively is 1 way of preparing my child for P1, don't you agree? I must say that I've learnt alot from reading the posts here, from how to prepare my child and myself for the academic to the the soft skills aspects required to survive pri education.

On a serious note, the only academic enrichment my child is attending now is MPM, plus a half hour session of hanyu pinyin every sat when we visit my ILs as my SIL is a full time chinese tutor. Am thinking of some creative writing skills in English and maybe in chinese for her later....will see how to fit in the schedule. Now just pray hard that her half day child care would have sufficiently prepare her for P1. Actually, I'm a lazy and lousy mom compared to many of the parents here.. :oops:

Yes, both of them. 1 in P5 and 1 in P6.

Since you mentioned about Chinese culture, i think their overall chinese PSLE results is relatively not very good. You may want to confirm this. While result is one thing, they have Chinese Orchestra which do well every year...even at national level if I am not wrong.

Sorry, I am not very meticulous about school and am a lazy parent. lol I have this twisted belief that it's hard for a child or even adult to be consistent all the time. So I prepare my kids such that they will not burn out prematurely but to \"peak\" academically at the right time e.g. P6, Sec 4 . There are so many things to do and enjoy in childhood, academic pursuit is only a journey to bigger things in life.

I am going to buy a house soon and Pasir Ris is one area that I am looking at.

I know where the good schools are in most of the other estates but am stumped when it comes to Pasir Ris.

I have heard about White Sands Primary but am not sure how they fare against the average neighborhood schools.

Are there any parents who have kids studying in White Sands Primary? If yes, how is the school culture like and how do you benchmark this school against the average neighborhood schools.

And, are there any parents who have kids studying in other primary schools in Pasir Ris and what is the school culture like?

White Sands and Pasir Ris Pri are 2 of the hottest schools in Pasir Ris... if you are buying property there, make sure you are within 1km of the school. Even so, there is a chance you need to ballot for these schools if you cannot get in earlier than Phase 2C.

Hi all,
Me staying in Pasir Ris....just shifting to a locn within 1 km of Elias Park.
Will be registering my son this year for P1.

I have shortlisted a few schools like
1. St Hildas
2. St Stephens
3. Pasir Ris Primary
4. Elias Park Primary
5. White Sands Primary
in the order of priority.

I'm eligible for Phase 2C onwards.
Im just wondering if I could follow this strategy that first try in the very good school like St Hilda's for phase 2C....if cannot get through, then opt for Elias Park Primary(by going thro past 2 years results,this school did not have balloting in any phase and am within 1 km of it so will definitely get in...besides got lot of friends' kids in this school)...but am also thinking is it a risk for my 2nd choice as last year Elias Park had good results too.

Can somebody advise please?

As my older one is currently at Park View, I was wondering if I should let my 2nd one enrol in the same sch as her sis or go for elias instead? I understand that elias standard is picking up. Do parents let their siblings go to different pri schools? :?

If a student is Tamil or Malay, he/she is not allowed to take Chinese as Mother Tongue language…is it true?
