        Hi Ririan,

My situation is the same as u... I am just staying in front of Rosyth... Just across a small road, but I don even dare to think of applying there... My alternative choices are hougang n xinmin pri which is within 1km but all still need ballot...really damn sian...
        Hi ririan/galleria,
^5 me too... Within 1km of my hse there are only 2 schools which is rosyth & ximin, both also need balloting within 1km, if can't get in then hav to send my kid to school outside 1km, if by then still hav to go thru balloting again at 2c sup, think I will go crazy...Pray hard!! :xedfingers:

During a recent get together, a friend of mine shares her view that the PV system should be dropped. As the conversation goes further, she admitted to the fact that if not for the PV system which she did few years ago, she could not have gotten the chance to let her DS enroll in this popular school near her place and till this day, she is very satisfied with the outcome and are very thankful for the PV opportunity the school gave her ............ :? :? :? 🀷

It is indeed strange that those who have managed to get their children into their choice school through the PV route are saying that the PV system should be dropped. Imagine if they never had a chance to do PV, would they have gotten into the school that they are now in? Maybe the system is not as transparent as we like it to be, but it does give the rest who don't qualify in phase 1 or 2A a chance to better their odds, right?

BTW, I am not a PV... πŸ¦† :siam:

Also, at the rate things are now, even to get into one’s choice schools through phase 2B would most probably require the person to stay within 1km from the school. By removing 2B, this group of people will still compete with those currently in 2C for that 1km range. It is not going to take away the balloting in any case.

                      a) Loads of PR's rent properties. Not everyone owns properties in Singapore. How you going to stop PR's from renting?

                      b) Once again with property prices sky rocket high lots of younger families may even resort to renting down the road. So we going take their right away here as well for renting within 1km?

Yes, we shouldn't take away people's right to rent, but there are indeed people who rent to be within 1km of their choice school and moving out of that 1km radius after 2 years, or even 1 year, once their children are in the school. It would be impossible for the school to track every child's address for the entire 6 years. So someone's suggestion earlier where consideration is given to the length of stay at a particular address prior to registration (and I think it is from verykiasu2010) is probably a better alternative.

At least these PRs are playing within the stipulated rules, dont they?

The ST reporter definitely asked the WRONG person...my son is already in P5 !!! The day I washed 6 cartons of sweet potatoes with 2 other mummies for 5 hours are over...hahaha. The reporter should ask PVs wannabe what they are willing to do as PV in the name of love.

you were shortlisted bcos u mentioned washing sweet potatoes as a PV
perhaps no one else mentioned they'd just done PV for this year ...
or perhaps reporter scared he stepped on a landmine as in the PV he'd chosen is one who was unsuccessful for a slot in that school ... and now might take opportunity to let off steam ...

you seemed the best option then since u are pretty obliging and active in here ... most sensible choice i suppose

just curious, do PVs actually serve all 40 hours ?
in your case, apart from the 5 hours with Mr Sweet Potatoes ... any other PV work put in ?

Since I've been a PV (although only chalked 5 hours) & managed to register my son successfully, I am a SAFE choice to be contacted...hahaha.
My hubby did the rest of the PV...he was a 'Saturday nanny' - gathering kids for enrichment classes at the school and then called the teachers in charge to bring them to the class. Packed him a simple sandwich as canteen is closed and he would have to tahan till 2pm.[/quote]haha to put it crudely, your hubby drew the shorter straw between the 2 of u πŸ˜‚
