-
vicki:

Can I chk if AT balloting is on Fri? Agar wat time?? -
I was browsing around other forums and really bewildered abt some stuffs. Especially some kids who are already confirmed registered into ATS and they are residing in the EAST and WEST??
Why? Do enlighten… -
Sorry, but can someone enlighten me what is first tier second tier schools? To me, that’s utterly nonsensical.
Does it means that a very strong academic sch is first tier? What about an all rounded school?? Lousy? -
smurf,
I am as confused as you too. So I choose to ignore all kinds of school ranking and go with my own guts feel and judgement

Because you can register your child into ANY school you like. Some think travelling long distance is a hassle and a hazard to their child but to some people, it's ok as they think the school is worth it.I was browsing around other forums and really bewildered abt some stuffs. Just like many people come to NYPS from all over the island and there are also many children who are from the north or the east coming to study in schools in Bukit Timah MGS or newton area like ACS etc..
You can't stop them as they are usually former students of these schools who have moved away yet still want their children to study there.
They get priority over people like us who genuinely stay close to the school so too bad for us. -

As all parents, every parent wants the best for their kids. if they have the advantage of being old boys/girls or affiliated to a popular / \"good\" school and do not have to spend a fortune to move house such that they can be within 1km, why not right?I was browsing around other forums and really bewildered abt some stuffs. In anyway, how big can Singapore be? I have a friend who stay in Bedok and send her dd to SCGS. The sch bus pick up the dd as early as 6am.
In many cases, for those of us who do not have this advantage, will try to move within 1km. IMHO... to each his / her own. -

I think we should take such tiering as a guidance to where a school stands overall.Sorry, but can someone enlighten me what is first tier second tier schools? To me, that's utterly nonsensical.

MOE is also trying to \"educate\" parents that it's not just academic results that determine a particular school is good or bad.
In general, i think the more popular school will be well balanced or score high in most criteria that determines the ranking -
While I agree that it is truly to each his own when it comes to deciding to register a child at 2A although the family stays far away from the school, I really pity the child.
My nephew is in SJI Junior and he stays in Queenstown. That is not really far, maybe less than half hr by car. Hw he takes the school bus and is up in the bus about 11am and home at about 8pm+. This means that he has his breakfast cum lunch at 10am and dinner at 9pm. Although his mother gives him $ for a snack before school starts, he would rather play than eat (he is a kid after all). Is he in a better position being in a popular school? Yes for his brains maybe and surely not, for his health.
Mummyo, that’s why I take my hat off to you for doing the practical thing. I gave up a chance at an IJ school (my alma mater) for the same reason
