About the booklist, given that the orientation is in late Nov, would the bookshops run out of text to sell? :? Any idea where to get booklist in advance? Maybe Tankee can help? 🙏

I do not think 2009 booklist is out.

The 2008 booklist is available for download at http://www.taonan.moe.edu.sg/Files/2008bklist.pdf

            Does anyone know

            1. How TNS allocate the primary 1 students into different classes? is it by alphabetical order of surname?

            2. Price of food sold at TNS canteen?

Heard from a friend that a bowl of noodle cost $0.70 so the kids need about $2 for pocket money! Also, the class are separated based on month of birth, that is why they have 12 classes.

I wonder typically how much parents give to their primary school children.

Whoa...so that's assuming that the # of pupils per month is roughly equal? Very interesting.

Not in any explicit order. There are many assumptions eg those with older siblings in tao nan will go to the 1st few classes, those who enter via phase 2B will go to 1st few classes, those born earlier will be in 1st few classes but not so true I observe. My son is in the 11th class, his class has children whose birthday ranges from Jan to Dec. Also has children that enter thru' various phases and some have older siblings in same school. So not sure how the actual allocation is done but I think they do try to balance the boy-girl ratio based on that year's cohort.

 ... so only TNS staff would know the basis.

I do recall the registration staff asking me whether my son has attended any pre-school education. Perhaps those who had not attended any pre-schools are placed in the same class so that the teacher would teach from the basics.

Any parents of existing TNS students can share how it was during the orientation day?

Were there long queues to buy uniforms and books? did they have sufficient stocks and sizes?

after reading about queues in other school made me worried ... i'm not a queue person. 😞

                        Yes, queue indeed !

Not sure whether orientation programme will change but for last year, there was a brief talk for the parents while teachers bring the kids to their respective classrooms (for orientation).

But you do not need to get the uniforms and books on the day of orientation. There’re a few other dates indicated and less crowded if you go on another day.

You’ll need to check out which sports group your child is in on the day of orientation as the sports T-shirt goes by sports group (name after sea animals).
