many parents transfer their child's school from P2 - P6.
they do so because:

a) they shift house.

b) at end of P3 around November, their child has been offered GEP programme by MOE. So this child will join the new school in P4 January Term 1.

c) they prefer their child to join an affliated school ulitimately, because of the safety net, in the event their child don't do well at PSLE, can't enter good Secondary school. At least still can fall back on affliated Secondary school, with lower COP (cut off point) as safety net.

some parents even apply > 1 affliated school concurrently.
in case one fail, still got chance with another.
depending on which school offer comes first, then they transfer over.

30 years from now - so long as you don't lose your child's report card, your grandchild can have a choice of primary schools to choose from, not just the one he graduated PSLE from ... provided no change to this system of still able to 'depend and rely on report card' to enter school of choice in P1.

but if you're careless, lose your child's report card over the years in the midst of shifting house, then sorry lah. Then, you lose the precious evidence that your kid had ever studied in that school before.

Of course, provided there's space in the school.

This yr there r lots of schs balloting during phase 2C (Pri 1 registration). What could be the main reasons? Will this trend continues? If it does, all parents will hv headache…

Personally, I felt the main contributing factors are

- more & more people are becoming aware & informed of which schools are more popular and need of priority registration to enhance chance

- property boom, more higher density residential within 1km of popular schools

MOE's planning & forecasting of demand may be another contributing factor. Then again this is no easy task

MOE's planning & forecasting of demand may be another contributing factor. Then again this is no easy task

also the reduction in cohort size due to deadline to implement single session by 2016....so, many schools got no choice but to reduce by 30 or 60 places, especially those in heartland high density areas......not enough new schools couple with reduced intake for existing schools -- it made a bad situation worse. Definitely MOE and HDB need to talk

for popular schools, there need to ballot since long time ago ...... nothing new actually
