Hi all!

So sorry my phrase was not clear.
I meant the MCQ answers not seperated as usual.For example one Q then they provide the answer and explanation.I can let him If no answer.Only for MCQ I ask him to do alone.Others I sit with him.For this book I sit with him for MCQ also.
Of cause the OE keywords are very useful.

This FAQ book is actually the compilation of frequently asked questions and the different ways a question is being phrased for the same concept.
For eg the function(s) of roots:
a) identify the part of the plant which anchors it firmly to the ground. Answer: Roots.

b)Identify the part that bind soil together.
Answer: Roots

c) Which part of the plant takes in water ?
Answer: Roots.

So the book is helpful in this sense.

Hi,
1. Give DS/DD abt 30 min or more to go thr the MCQ themselves, then spot chk by covering up answers & asking them some of the qns. If manage to give correct ans promptly & can give explanations on req, means they really study; or else make them study all over again!
2. Use sticky note pad to cover the ans.

also like Janet Sim's Process Skills Worksheets ... some OE are in fill-in-the blanks format that make kids more willingly to do the qns. There are quite some 'new' qns in the series too

Yup.. am currently using the lower block one for my son. Yes..like the fill-in-the blank format too.. test the P3 kids on the basis concept and will not frighten them away from science. But find the worksheets a bit expensive..$4 ++ for a few topics. Think about 5 topics in lower block.. = about $20. But still I bought them.

Have been using her assessment books with my ds1... now another round with ds2...:)

Yes. not only kids, parents & many teachers also dun like to mark OE. As long as kids willing to fill in the blanks, they'll somehow pick up the key words & key concepts along the way... cheers!

I'm busy highlighting the key words in PINK for the Lower Block now. Oh yes, just invested in a new chop 'IMPORTANT' 2 days ago.
When I see certain questions with answers that must be memorized, I stamp IMPORTANT beside the answer.

Just to check, if keywords are already in bold, aren't they already important? Do you mean, even among key words, some are more important? How to differentiate? Thanks. I know I'm a bit ks, my DD1 only going to P1 next yr but I'm already kaypoing in this thread........but can't help it.......... :oops:

You are not kiasu lah - just a mum that is concerned regarding the child's academic aspect!

For my case, my DD1 has been trained to do underlining of keywords by school T. So, at home, to reinforce that - she will have her highlighters standby when doing reading or revision. She has to remember the spelling of those key words else marks will be deducted for wrong spelled words :scared: :nailbite:

For me, I underlined those facts that I feel are important esp if I have seen them repeating in the OE questions in most assessment books. Sometimes the questions asked in different ways but if you have the Science facts right, you will be able to score.

Above is just my 2 cents worth of opinion; for sharing! :celebrate:

I remember DD had Science spelling/Dictation test from P3 to midst of P5.

May be those were the important period to make them spelling correctly and also remember the answering technique.

HaHa, can consider if is necessary otherwise the child will start protest as there are three spelling/dication a week!

Keywords in bold are important...but important in the sense that child must know how to spell words like 'fertilization', 'gullet', magnetism' for eg. For labelling a diagram, it can be 1/2m or 1m for that answer and that's why I stamp IMPORTANT (to know how to spell).
