Which School was that? NYPS? I heard from a friend they order online and also offer delivery. I thought that was really cool.

CHIJ Toa Payoh. I left the school carrying a nice box with all her books and uniforms...super cool. The vendor is Pacific. Tick the books you want, pay online and print out receipt. Then move to the other section of the canteen to buy her pinafore/blouse and another vendor selling her PE tops/shorts/socks.

ya it was very organized at my ds1's school too. that was in Nov 2009. cos he was in P1 in 2010.

was very :scared: :yikes:  to read the 1st 2 pages of this thread. cos Strawberry milk's account of chaos from her friend said it was CPS but my ds1's school is CPS lei...

perhaps that was in the past and the school changed bookshop vendor?? cos it was definitely not the case for me. it was a very quick process, to get uniforms, books, sign up for school bus and fill in GIRO and dental forms, all on the Orientation day.

champion and LKVM's kids are in CPS too. don't recall them saying it was so chaotic. i guess the situation now is better. 🙂

            hi LeeTaiTai,

for RGPS, just called up admin. Kids no need to take any test on coming orientation day, 19 Nov (Sat).

i asked - so, how are the girls grouped & distributed into different class ?
she replied - first sort the girls' names in alphabetical order, next then group the girls into 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9. Total 9 classes. Each class 30 girls.

So, all the '1' go into class 1, the '2' enter class 2, the '3' enter class 3, etc.

for phonics, all kids would have learnt their phonics well in kindergarten. So the school won't teach phonics in great detail. Parents are advised to ensure their daughter can read well, including reading very basic, simple instructions, can write their own name.
Tx Mdm ! 💋 You know my mum told me long ago school give priority to kids whose parents are of higher income eg,lawyer , doctors etc whatever vacancy left will be given to the public and that's how they group students. I wonder how true is that before they come up with current system.

school books, if you buy all the items and optionals, should be around $200.

uniforms, varies from school to school, but about $15 per set for formal or PE. If girls' uniforms have special designs or pinafore, then expect extra cost?

socks and shoes we bought from outside. not school, but i understand some schools have special socks with the school name, so have to buy from school vendor.

mil told me something like that. said there was a period when educated moms get priority before moms who had lower education levels.

i think the current system is much better in this sense!

Can’t agree more , the system should consistently improve and we parents should keep ourselves abreast of changes too .

Thanks Kabalevsky, I suppose it's once a week. I am thinking if I should stop my DD's art class once she start P1 as she has other classes to attend.
