My son came home happily yesterday...He is the only one with full marks for his Science practical test...I was rather amazed. I praised him for a great job and added  if he can continue to work as hard, he will do well for his SA2 and PSLE next year. I hope he will remember this feeling and motivate himself.

:congrats: to Janet and DS. :rahrah:

The hardwork pay off! The motivation is the important factor to strive and I've confident that your ds will continuous to do well in this subject as well as other subjects.

We are looking forward to hear more good news from you. :celebrate:

          Peony:
DD did not do well for her practical test - 6 out of 10.

1 mistake and 4 marks gone coz the last qn was some kind of confusing table.

          Hi Peony,

Is ok as this is just the learning curve.

          Continuous to jia you! :rahrah:

            Hi Peony,

My son didn’t do well for his practical in P4…fortunately the Science practical tests are 5%. It so happens he has an interest in magnets this year…guess that’s the reason why his grade spiked this year.
Ultimately, it’s the year end written paper that is impt.

For my son, it is not so much the marks he scored for the practical which made me happy…more to do with his confidence & motivation boost. He failed his Math twice this year and was in the dumps.

              Brenda, thanks for the encouragement!!

Janet, DD has to face the consequence… I mean that in a positive way as she did not prepare for the practical at all. Why? Coz she insisted that the teacher said that there’s no need to.

But I did encourage her to use all mistakes as opportunies to identify what her weaknesses are and learn. She is weak in seed dispersal questions. Think also her foundation in cycles was not strong… seem to have forgotten much of what she learnt in the 1st semester.

Am hoping she’ll be like your son too and bounce back!

My son's teacher told class to read the activity workbooks...without indicating  which one to read. He is very weak in reading graphs, like for human circulatory system, which part of the graph shows the person resting.

I was hoping he will be motivated to go on to work hard after scoring well for that test...however it was just a 1 day excitement and happiness. Now he's back to square 1 again :stompfeet: back to nagging and scolding to get work done.

I had to scold DD yesterday too. She only seems to work on things that I pick out for her. Was a bit harsh as I said "Sorry your mum is working!!! What will happen if I’m too busy for you???!!"

Feel a tad bad… as she has to do so much homework… work at frenzied pace… plus try to be an independent learner.

Quite a number of school holidays coming up and I cannot possibly take leave for each one.

Hey, I scolded mine here yesterday too...watching those stupid Japanese clips on Youtube...would have been happier if he can spend his time in a more constructive way.

There are 6 school holidays this month...have planned for him to do something on those days and I'm feeling the heat. Uncle is coming back for holiday with his son (same age as my boy) end of this week, so now negotiating with son to get work done first and let them play on Friday.

:rahrah: Janet, that's great news ! Understand your point about feeling good. I heard stories of boys who 'wake up' in end P5/P6....so let's continue :xedfingers:

Peony, sama sama lah....mine also only do things I pick out for him. The day he will go get worksheets out and do them himself, I buy kopi for all the P5 moms here. Don't get too stressed lah....how's the situation in her class ? better or still the same ?
