      Hi,

      Would appreciate some advice.

Between Poi Ching that is within walking distance and RGPS. Which is the one to go for? In terms of sch awards - POi Ching pales in comparison to RGPS.
I read in this forum it is because POi Ching is a new school but found on Sch website that it gained it's Sap status in the early 90s.
RGPS. The performance of their better mainstream classes is very good, which I would take to imply that the school does a good job in preparing them for PSLE.

        Thanks.

Any idea POi Ching does as good a job as RGPS in preparing the kids for PSLE?

          SAP = Special Assistance Plan

It is special assistance given to Chinese language based school

That is why other good schools like RGPS and MGS are not SAP schools
Anyone can share what is SAP about and how it helps to chinese language based school?

What it takes to become SAP?

Could anyone advise if a child sits for Higher Chinese at PSLE as oppose to another child that sits for Normal Chinese at PSLE? Any point difference?

            TIA! šŸ˜„

every child will sit for the normal MT. the higher MT is an additional paper

PSLE t-score is based on the 4 core subjects, higher MT is excluded

higher MT is graded distinction, merit, pass, or fail

if applying to SAP school, higher MT, which is HCL, will give the student 3 additional points if got distinction, 2 for merit, 1 for pass, zero for fail

Thanks vk2010. 4 core subjects are English, normal MT, Maths & Science?

If the above is correct, those fr SAP primary can opt to take HCL as the 5th paper.

If a child is applying to a SAP secondary school, then HCL at PSLE is compulsory?

If a child is not applying to a SAP sec school, then can opt not to take HCL at PSLE is it correct?

If a child is not applying to a SAP sec sch, then his HCL PSLE distinction can be counted as extra 3 pts?

                TIA! šŸ˜„

If a child is applying to a SAP secondary, then HTL at PSLE is compulsory?

If a child is not applying to a SAP sec school, then can opt not to take HTL altogether is it correct?

                  TIA! šŸ˜„
If a student is taking HCL at P6, he must take the subject at PSLE on top of the four core subjects. It doesn't matter whether you intend to apply for a SAP secondary school or not.

You can apply to enter a SAP secondary school regardless of whether you take HCL or not. The only difference is that if you take HCL, you'll get bonus points. 3 for Distinciton, 2 for Merit etc.

So, if you're thinking of not applying for a SAP school and don't want to burden your child with an additional subject, then drop HCL at P6.

Tks jtoh. If you have time could you advise if HCL at PSLE got distinction n not applying to SAP sec sch, will the extra 3 pts be counted to help admission?

                    TIA. šŸ˜„

The HCL bonus points can only be used if you apply for admission to a SAP school. It cannot be counted for any other schools. So for eg if a student scores 260 at PSLE and has a distinction at HCL, his PSLE score is 260 for application to all schools in Singapore except SAP schools. If he applies for a SAP school, his score will be taken as 260+3=263.

In short, HCL bonus points are only useful if you are applying to SAP schools.

Note you do not need to have taken HCL in primary school to study in an SAP secondary school.
