MummyThreeStreams:
MummyThree Streams, thanks so much for your information.JGMum,
Full schools have both primary and secondary sections as one single school. Since affiliation for alumni is based on the school, even if you only studied in the school during your secondary school days, your child will be eligible under Phase 2A.
:thankyou: -

The situation is far more competitive now that Catholic High School has been granted approval to start running it's own IP program starting 2013.[/quote]Why? Not that great wat....Cath High goes into IP in a strange union with 2 other girls' schools that becomes what? Rojak JC? 2 traditionally chinese schools with a \"peranakan\" school? Probably not all that popular, I'm afraid. But if the child is in there, then have IP better than no IP, is that what you are saying? Anyway, school is dual-track. I think only less than 100 students will get to be in IP each year.
Yes, your description is absolutely correct. This happens for Catholic High too. That's why after the Sibling phase & Alumni phases, there are very few places left for Phase 2B & Phase 2C.phankao:

Dear MummyThreeStreams, does this mean that for full-schools, those who studied in the secondary, but not the primary section, (for example St. Nicks secondary, but not St. Nicks primary) can qualify to register their children in Phase 2A2 (or Phase 2A1 if they joined the school's alumni e.g. St. Nicks alumni)? -
phankao:
Yup, that's what I am saying. Catholic High primary boys can get into their secondary school with a lower cut-off. Once they get in, there is always a chance for them to convert to IP track if they do well for Sec1 and 2. In that sense, it is attractive for the parents.

As for the rojak culture, it is beyond our control. MOE's decision lah. -
MandyMummy:
Principal already said that the Affiliated score is probably going to go up to around 240+ when it's into IP. 240+ for affiliated, and 248 for non-affiliated??? Not very attractive already, I'd think.

With St Nics ok, but SCGS? :scratchhead: -
8 points difference … no big deal!
correct way to implement should be 250 for affliated boys … and 260 for outsider boys coming in.
if NYPS girls minimum is 250 for affliated girls to enter into NYGH, the score for Catholic high boys should at least be likewise. Why should boys lose out to girls ? Catholic high primary also a GEP centre, like NYPS. -

No choice. MOE-directed. -
SCGS is like a third party, coming in to intercept the 2 Catholic denomination boys and girls school.
can see that SCGS primary is trying hard to raise the level of Chinese now, trying to be on par with these two strong, powerful Chinese SAP schools, where they start HCL right from P1. -

Well, it's like a 2nd-tier IP school unlike NYGH, which is not dual-track, so what do you expect??8 points difference ... no big deal!

Anyway, CHS was popular bc previously for affiliated, the score was only like 220+ while the non-affiliated score ~248. Now they are raising higher and higher every year for the affiliated boys, so it really gets less and less attractive for p1 entrants now and in future.
GEP centre so what? All GEP boys would go to RI/HCI/NUSH. It's the few rare mainstream boys who get high-score (eg. between 260-270) who apply to study in CHS sec. Very very very rare. Most with those scores go to RI/HCI.
