Hi, I'm new to this club. My son was born on 5 December 2005. Registered him at Stamford Primary because we couldn't get in to SJI Junior. Anyone else with a child going to Stamford next year? Thought I'd ask this question here because the PNG for that school seems to have only one member: me.

          Hello.. I am back..

out the whole day.. and running the whole day... jam everywhere..

          Welcome onboard..

P1 stress- really depends on parents', and to some extent teachers' expectations. If you are always expecting perfect scores and no corrections at all, then sure torturous time for child and parent.

Social integration- my children were always getting birthday invites throughout the early years in primary school. Though I admit my dd took a longer time to gel with kakis than my ds.

Foundation- reading and number skills are essential headstart. Then just reinforce whatever is taught in school. NOT with assessment books but more hands-on activities and daily life application (supermarket shopping, reading directions etc) Assessment and exam papers should be minimal- IMHO

            :hi5: :goodpost:

Thank you, kabalevsky for the compliment. And I am glad to know another parent who does not make tutition part and parcel of primary school education.

Enjoying their (short) childhood is a bigger priority than top scores. But if average scores affects their morale, I then step in to boost their self-confidence by pushing lil harder in their work.

I worry and start taking action when my children voice out their difficulties. My P2 ds 'complained' earlier in the year that I dont seem to care that he was struggling with subtraction using renaming and compo writing. I just got him to do additional practise on top of his Kumon and read more to him. Show examples of good writing...

But i must admit i am clueless about nurturing good writers. My children read avidly and widely. But when it comes to compositions, aiyo, i have to hide my head under a stone! 😓

learning from exam papers.... :scratchhead: , thought it is more for revision?

actually I learn from the exam papers to know the standard coz was clueless at first what's the benchmark for p1..

:rotflmao: I am using myself as a guide so I know for a fact that assessment books will hit a plateau ard P4 or P5. that is where other avenues of learning steps in , like science social club or external science programmes, the interest is much better sustained
That seem like a sound plan to me... enjoy the roller-coaster ride. Its really more fun than stressful with the children in primary school! 😜
