How to wash vegetables clean yet retain their nutrients

organic ones are very expensive leh...and hard to find. hmm, sometmes give dry ones, but think he likes juicy ones.hee.

I saw a programme b4, someone uses toothpaste to clean, put a little toothpaste and shake vigoriously, after that, rinse and the grapes will be shiny! :lol:

Same logic eh? Oil-based pesticides that come off with the \"binder\" - flour or toothpaste! I'll try it myself. Thanks for the pointers!

I pluck all the grapes from the stem and wash them vigourously, rinsing 5 to 6 times with plenty of water. That should get rid of most of the pesticide. Btw, among all imported fruits, grapes has one of the highest pesticide level found on the skin.

Sink the whole bunch into a bowl of water with a few drops of vegetable wash added. Then rinse 2 times.

I have always wondered how we should wash our vegetables so that they are free from pesticides and yet retain their nutrients.


I use a little of Vege Fresh (果鲜) and mix with water to rinse/soak (depending) the vegetables and fruits before cutting. After all the dirt is cleared, I will then rinse off with clear water once again to get rid of the Vege Fresh.

I was wondering if there are any side effects of using Vege Fresh, but the fruits look really clean after washing with it, especially Grapes... shiny and no white spots at all.

cant remember the reason why but sometimes if i remember i will do likewise.

if not, i will just soak and remove any dirt in a bucket of water. then rinse off under tap.

i dont like to use vege fresh or any other thing cos’ it is like adding another layer of pesticides.

Thanks, LOLMum. I didn't know the rice water has the cleansing effects. Yes, I also don't quite agree with using Vege Fresh, but then again, I couldn't think of any other ways, so I still continue using it.
