I just want to share with the kiasuparents here. My neighbour has a child who was so talented in music, she did not put in much effort, gained her grade 8 distinction and diploma in p6 smoothly. She was not pushed to do all these. She participated many competitions locally and oversea.

Beside this she is doing very well academically. (top 10 in 1st class) She can either Dsa thru music or academic, she chose dsa thru music, cause she is so inclined into music naturally, MEP will be her choise.

Please do not push your child for exam, but I believe you should give them a lot of encouragement, with proper guidance and financial help, they can exel in what they are talented in.

Your neighbour wants to know, or you want to know? RI & ACSI don't take in girls, leh. You say your neighbour's is a \"she\". 😜

MEP is different from taking music as ‘O’ Level subject.

There are many other schools offering music as ‘O’ Level subject within the school (no need to travel to MEP schools).

There are also students from neighbourhood schools travelling to MEP schools in the afternoons for their MEP lessons. I had a classmate who did that throughout sec sch & I have 3 students who are currently in neighbourhood schools but take MEP in another school.

If your child intends to take up music as an examination subject, it’ll be advantageous to have learnt another music instrument.

BTW, I attended 3 months of MEP at TKGS (travelling from Hougang) many years ago and I quit after 3 months. It’s too tiring having to rush over after school & I often miss alot of school events due to MEP classes. The syllabus is really tough, if you do not have strong passion for music & good foundation, you’ll find it hard to cope.

                Hi

Understand TJC offers MEP…my friend’s daughter moved to TJC after Sec 2 via this route…she’s musically talented, achieved grade 8 at P5.

                  Good Resources for MEP.

Do note that if you pursue Music all the way - till 'o' or 'a' level you can find the exam criteria here. ( O level not offered at IP Schools )

( I guess syllabus also subject to change )

Unfortunately, MUSIC will take up one subject in A level.... - so you will have to give us another subject eg. Econs, History.. etc. Actually the syllabus look quite tough.. and is really meant for students who are keen on music as a 'career'....

This I agree with Mrs Wong based in my daughter's experience.

NYGH offers a school-based MEP called Higher Music Programme (HMP)

It’s pretty similar to the MEP. After getting admitted to NYGH, interested students will take a theory test. If they pass, there’s a practical exam before they get selected.

Having taken neither myself though, I don’t know how difficult it is to get in.

My dd was selected for NYGH HMP 2010. Does anyone know how many students are selected and on which day(s) will the programme be conducted?

                        Thks 😄
