Preparing kids for P5 in 2011

OMG :yikes: if my son has CA2 and has to submit greeting card for Teachers' Day...that piece of homework will be daddy's 'job'. In fact last year when son had to design a CNY greeting card, it was done by hubby and colouring was by younger daughter...his teachers literally piled on homework everyday last year...if we didn't help him then, he would have to sleep very late.Passion88:
My niece CA2 will start from next Mon to Fri and yet
they were told last Fri to submit Teacher's Day greeting
cards today for school contest.
Exactly, we offered to help her so that she can complete faster but she insisted that it has to be done & completed by herself as it is an \"Appreciation Card\" especially for her favorite teacher.
No choice, so we sat down just helping to find and pass her the required accessories. -
I don’t remember son’s teachers teaching class any skills to write compo…just throw them the compo, give them some phrases and ‘GET IT DONE’.
Schools want recognition for producing ACE students and yet don’t teach the students how to get the STARS, do they know how to spell ‘SHAME’ ?
Parents have to send kids to tuition centres…when kids’ results improve, school gets the credit for producing such good results.
As for art work, hubby has been the one doing all of it since P3. There was a year when my son had to design something to raise money for the school. Fortunately daddy’s artistic skill is better than mummy. -

I totally agree... Why must they set extremely tough papers? It is so demoralizing and affected the rest of the papers. My girl had an extremely difficult Maths paper during her SA1. As a result, it affected her 2 papers that she sat the next 2 days.
Was told that their coming CA2 English paper is a tough one and that their english teacher will give them a treat if anyone can score above 56 /100 !!! Guest the most difficult section will be on the vocab. &Passion88:

comprehension.
Don't understand why the teachers need to set papers to such high
standard, tend to 'kill' the student's confidence?? Still haven't sit for
the exam & they are already 'giving up', :nunchuk: -
I dare not imagine what kind of questions will be appearing for SA2 :nailbite: the daily EL suppl worksheets are making me damn scared.
As if this craziness at P5 is insufficient, I am also facing stress of preparing my daughter in P1 for continuous summative tests every 10 weeks. I am :imdrowning: stretched both ways, no thanks to MOE for doing this. -
Hang in there, Janet!! Don’t let the stress get to you.
Next week is DD’s exams. I bet her peers are all studying hard.
As for us, we’re going to the night safari on Friday!
When the going gets tough, the tough relaxes and become stronger!! -

Yup! Yup! Son stopped studying last week. We will pick up intense studying again on the day after exams. -
Yes, Chenonceau!! Learnt from you too!
Was contemplating the night safari trip, and what \"sealed\" it for me was when DD came back and told me how the teacher added more pressure by once again setting high targets.
Already the paper bound to be super tough... yet she requires them to all exceed 80%. The cheek!!! Considering she hardly teaches!! :stompfeet:
The marks are not counted... so should we turn the tables and give her the heart attack instead? :siam: -

Son doesn't have CA2...but I'm making him revise for CL 5A as well as Science. Can't possibly start next month. I'm feeling mentally tired...so just asked him to do a chapter on Science. With both of them at home today, I've gone nuts :stompfeet:

Take care. My ds will be having CA next week and since he has not done much extra work outside of school work since term started, I hope to cram in some practices these few days. Unfortunately, the homework teacher assigned for these 2 days of home based learning are quite a lot and son is still cranking up his engine so progress is slow. :xedfingers: can get some revision done before CA 2.
Jia you to all who has CA2.
