      happy mama,

for HCL, no oral and listening comprehension components, and the compo writing will only be either 命题作文 or continuous essay, no picture compo as an option. moreover, the marking of the compo is also more stingent as compared to normal CL.

yes, the comprehension Qs will likely be inferential Qs and self-expressed of opinions or suggestions, so the pupils' vocab need to be strong to gain good marks for it.

also, for HCL lessons (as for most schools) need to stay back 1 day in the week (sometimes 2 days when nearer to exams). at the end of P5, if the pupils' HCL marks do not meet the criteria of the school, will be asked to drop HCL, though sometimes, can \"bargain\" with the school. 😉
Hello Augmum, just saw your post, and thanks for the info.

Wow, HCL at PSLE level seems very tough, plus DD hardly reads CL storybooks, I'm getting worried for her... Anyway still a long way to go before we decide. Hopefully she can maintain her current HCL standard till PSLE.

hi happy mama, u're welcome. 😄
dun worry so much lah, HCL at psle level is not that tough ....
esp since yr DD already taking HCl at lower primary levels.
the tough one is when they go to secondary level.....a bigger jump of standard.

the bonus point of 2 points for merit(or at least can get 1 point for pass) do make a difference
esp if the pupil is at the borderline of the COP of the sec school he/she selects,
so ...dun worry so much .....juz go for it if she is eligible.

Yes, HCL is compulsory at SAP secondary schools. But under exceptional cases you are allowed to drop HCL to CL I believe.

As for DHS , is \"not allowed to drop\".......but forced to drop 😉 HCL
if the pupils can't meet the criteria by end of sec 2......
then will be ONLY CL all the way till year 5 and year 6......

What grade must you score to be 'forced to drop'?[/quote]a very resonable grade.....at least a C (unlike some other IP SAP school).....

while in NYPS, you need to beg to drop HCL

i think only for primary schools,
is/are there any secondary school/s which need to beg in order to drop HCL ?? 😉
