Mark, now I'm seriously reading what you wrote with a pinch of salt. I know you're pulling Uncle Trap's legs but we can't afford to offend him, else if he doesn't dispense any more words of wisdom in this forum, then it's really all our lostNow you know why he's known as the sagely Uncle Trap in this part of the KSP world.

Psst, he's actually very, very old in real life - much older than young people like us - to have accumulated so much wisdom. :siam:
Mrsbongz,
Will let my DD take the sch bus next year. -

Sunnyvale? Are you in the IT field?
My company is in IT field, but I am working in the non-IT function. In fact, I always say that I am the most 'non-ITable' person in the whole company! Cannot tell u where I work, 'sia-suay' my exployer :rotflmao:JRLam:
A lot of consciousness and 'strategy' from the parent ... it is SOOOO difficult to be parents nowsdays!
markfch:
I have been telling myself that - they are who they are, and I prefer for them to learn themselves instead of depending on me or external parties (other than sch Ts). However, I can't help but wonder when we 'deprive' our kids from certain exposures, are we limiting their potential? Like in this case, I will ask myself, am I not enabling my dd to get better results coz she is not exposed to those better notes given by TLL while her other friends are? Unless they :siam: whenever you mention the word 'tuition', and you know that they will benefit from it, I feel bad for not enabling them that experience. Well, unless I am E3, who is more than capable to impart her knowledge and add value to her dds beyond the classrooms without tuition... but unfortunately I belong to those who choses to outsource to reduce my guilt  but money/time is a limited resource ..Actually it also depends on the parents' expectation.
If can bring ourselves to aim slightly lower, will definitely be less stressful for all. -

Don't worry, old people are very magnanimous one. They won't get angry so easily, keke.

Furthermore, I've been teasing him since beginning of the yr and he's still dispensing advice to me via pm. Where got angry?
JRLam:
I understand where you're coming from. About TLL, I've no doubt that they are good, otherwise our good brudders & sistas here will not be spending that kind of money every month. However, I can't help but wonder when we 'deprive' our kids from certain exposures, are we limiting their potential? Like in this case, I will ask myself, am I not enabling my dd to get better results coz she is not exposed to those better notes given by TLL while her other friends are? Having said that, someone here in KSP told me previously that the chemistry between tutor and tutee is the most impt variable that determines how much knowledge is retained. So he resisted TLL as his ds was happily settled in his existing tuition. His ds scored well enough to have all the top schs vying for his enrolment and eventually chose RI.
I also know of someone else whose dd ended up in GEP. Her dd doesn't have any tuition at all. All revision done with mum alone.
These anecdotes tell me that strictly speaking, tuition is not totally necessary and also that there are many good tuition ctrs around. I think all this rush for enrichment is part psychological - I'm also victim and can't seem to escape - in nature. As logical people, we wish to form the link that because we spend money, that's why our kids do well. Cause and effect. It attributes our kids' good results to something measurable, something deterministic, something repeatable; so that we won't appear helpless when our 2nd kid comes along. Just repeat the formula to achieve the same outcome. So we're comforted. -
I had a mini heart attack just now while I was browsing the P1 HCL books at Popular :scared: Now I'm really worried for my 'eat potato' DD

Deja vu. Almost one yr ago, I expressed the same sentiments here ==> http://www.kiasuparents.com/kiasu/forum/viewtopic.php?f=38&t=4407&p=285723&hilit=+shock+HCL+P1#p285723
Likewise, next yr you can repeat what you posted today to those 2013 newbie parents.
Looking at the bright side, there's no exams for P1. The newly formed continuous assessments are much easier than previous yrs' full blown exams. :rahrah:
Even better news is I realised that kids today are really intelligent and able to absorb knowledge like a sponge, as long as they are interested. I'm very sure that that will be the case for your child. One of the ways I got ds interested in chinese was to purchase the comical chinese cartoon εηΎηΎδΈη°ε€ͺηΌ which ds loved. -

Hey, I experienced the same heart attack when my son was in P1...stress man ! Firstly HCL and secondly my son's dislike for CL. Focused like crazy on his HCL and forgot about his EL. -
