If can bring ourselves to aim slightly lower, will definitely be less stressful for all.

I have been telling myself that - they are who they are, and I prefer for them to learn themselves instead of depending on me or external parties (other than sch Ts). However, I can't help but wonder when we 'deprive' our kids from certain exposures, are we limiting their potential? Like in this case, I will ask myself, am I not enabling my dd to get better results coz she is not exposed to those better notes given by TLL while her other friends are? Unless they :siam: whenever you mention the word 'tuition', and you know that they will benefit from it, I feel bad for not enabling them that experience. Well, unless I am E3, who is more than capable to impart her knowledge and add value to her dds beyond the classrooms without tuition... but unfortunately I belong to those who choses to outsource to reduce my guilt :sad: but money/time is a limited resource ..

I understand where you're coming from. About TLL, I've no doubt that they are good, otherwise our good brudders & sistas here will not be spending that kind of money every month.

Having said that, someone here in KSP told me previously that the chemistry between tutor and tutee is the most impt variable that determines how much knowledge is retained. So he resisted TLL as his ds was happily settled in his existing tuition. His ds scored well enough to have all the top schs vying for his enrolment and eventually chose RI.

I also know of someone else whose dd ended up in GEP. Her dd doesn't have any tuition at all. All revision done with mum alone.

These anecdotes tell me that strictly speaking, tuition is not totally necessary and also that there are many good tuition ctrs around. I think all this rush for enrichment is part psychological - I'm also victim and can't seem to escape - in nature. As logical people, we wish to form the link that because we spend money, that's why our kids do well. Cause and effect. It attributes our kids' good results to something measurable, something deterministic, something repeatable; so that we won't appear helpless when our 2nd kid comes along. Just repeat the formula to achieve the same outcome. So we're comforted.

Looking at the bright side, there's no exams for P1. The newly formed continuous assessments are much easier than previous yrs' full blown exams. :rahrah:

Even better news is I realised that kids today are really intelligent and able to absorb knowledge like a sponge, as long as they are interested. I'm very sure that that will be the case for your child. One of the ways I got ds interested in chinese was to purchase the comical chinese cartoon 喜羊羊与灰太狼 which ds loved.
