Was told that 'cream' is better than 'lotion' as it's more moisutrising. Hope this helps
Its becos cream has less moisture and do not get totally absorb into skin layers. It is actually better to use a light moisturising gel/lotion. After it dries off, then apply cream for a protective layer.
For hives, I would normally rub some methanol calamine lotion or if its hot and burning, I will use a cold pack on it.[/quote] -
I have a student, already 18 years old, who has very bad eczema. The sad thing is that he was taking steroids for a long time, and the steroids caused his eyes to have cataract ! He has to go for surgery.
My 5 year old boy also has eczema. I used to bring him to National Skin Centre, and was prescribed some steroid cream. Now I don’t dare to use any steroid cream on him.
I use Cetaphil for his shower, and California baby calendula cream as moisturizer every day.
I use a laundry detergent for sensitive skin, and I make sure that the clothes and bedsheet are rinsed 4 to 5 times to be completely free of detergent.
I am also trying to find out what sort of food will help. I read that bean sprouts and Aloe Vera are good for skin problems, I am going to try feeding my boy with those types of food.
Sian…we don’t have any family history of eczema before, don’t know why it happens to my boy. -
Just to share…my 2 kids have eczema too. Noticed and was also further confirmed that it’s 'cos of their sensitive noses (they have coughs/colds frequently) that led to the eczema.
For me the standard routine for them is to apply Physiogel moisturizing lotion on them after they wake up, after their shower and before they sleep.
Expensive solution but better than to have to apply steriod creams all the time. Also was told by my PD that when they shower, the water should not be too hot else their skin will become dry and worsen the eczema.
One good thing tho, my PD told me that most of the time, the child should grow out of it…Hope that’s some consolation.
For me, I used to have eczema and hives too. I remember having to down bowls of ginger water when I was a kid.Don’t ask me why but I stopped having hives since p6 and there was only 1 isolated episode during my year 1 exams in NUS due to stress .Other than that I was cleared. -

Hi, My son has eczema issue as well. Went to NSC, I gave up after 2nd visit due to poor Dr’s coordination. 1st visit, I asked if my son could b allergy to any food. As I noticed one he eat, peanut butter, he tend to hv rash near his lips…
1st visit, the jr Dr with confirmation from a snr consultant, that should not do food allergy test as this will deprive my son fr tasting other food. They said tt I could cont to feed him any food & they will treat him externally w steroid cream.
2nd visit, consulted another Dr (dun get to c same dr) - this one was a Snr consultant herself, told me that I MUST get my son to do a food allergy test. She asked me if I knw that my son could hv been chocked to death by eating peanuts. The steroid cream given by the earlier Dr was WRONG. if she’s the examiner, she would hv FAILED the earlier dr…

Hi,
Anybody have any good doctor or any good medicine for Eczema problem? -
Hi! I actually recalled us parents discussing this before but strangely, manual and engine searches couldn't find me the thread. If I can find that thread, it'll be very helpful as they were many informative posts.
Chief, does this board have some auto-delete/auto-hide function for threads past a certain \"age\"? Or is the listing of threads and search engine being buggy? :? -

It's not due to housekeeping. It's due to... dunno what. We need some technical expertise here. Time to call in our heavy artillery.
