Actually the letter says your child still needs to have a \"PSLE score that makes him/her eligible for a course in our college\". I think that means at least 250?

Bc you need at least 250 to be in an IP and to do HMT.

I am not familiar with NJC per se cos we have never applied to NJC. But from the experience of my eldest son who had entered RI via DSA - as long as the child's PSLE score makes him eligible for Express/Special stream, he would be accepted.

Please see RI's FAQ which I had copied from their website:
      http://www.raffles.sg/faq_dsa.html

      4.
If am offered a place under DSA but my PSLE score does not meet either RGS or RI's cut-off for admission under MOE central posting system, will I still be able to gain admission into or RI?

Once you are offered a place under DSA and you accept the offer thereafter, and meet the PSLE cut-off for a place in the Express or Special Stream, your place in either RGS or RI is confirmed.

I think all IP DSAs operate under the same MOE rules, so my guess is that NJC should be the same. However, re the rules on the min PSLE aggregate to do HMT, I am not sure. No harm for affected parents to call up NJC to doublecheck!

But at the same time, I personally encourage all DSA-confirmed kids to work hard to get a good PSLE score. Your PSLE score will remain with you all your life. That was the same advice I gave to my eldest son. 😄

It is 200. Last time there was Special course to do HMT so need at lease 250 or CL A* or HMT at least a Merit. Now no more already.

Yes, I emailed them to clarify that point. Mainly bc other schools word it like what RI/RGS doesm as in meet cut-off for Express stream, but the NJC's letter says \"meet eligibility for our college's course\". So i'm not 100% sure if it means the same thing. Not explicit. Waiting for their reply.

Anybody called? I want to see the reply from the school \"in print\" though. *haha.* hence email.

Email/Print is BEST for something as important as this! I wld also go via email like you. Do post their reply please. Although I didn't apply for NJC, I'd be interested to know as well. Thanks!

😉 I told my son the exact opposite; that no one will ask for his PSLE score. Most employers request for the 'O' level certificates and above.
I recalled a case of a student who had very poor PSLE scores and was streamed to the Normal Technical Stream - but his diligence and positive attitude in the later years of his education in a polytechnic enabled him to obtain a overseas scholarship ! So the latest academic records are just as important and can even over-ride the previous 'bad' records.

But I do agree that all kids have to work hard for the exams and give their very best. It's their responsibility to do so and it's not just for results alone. Not 'teaching' any values here. JMHO 😄

Agree with you there, as you get on with life and go for higher education. Frankly, off-hand, I only remember university scores onwards. But for now, at least for the next few years, PSLE score is the highest education level that they have.

Your example of the NT student who had done well later in life is very encouraging, especially to parents of children who are \"late-bloomers\". 😄

I agree. Employers will look only at O levels, A levels and University grades. I never looked at a prospective employee’s PSLE results. I was more interested in how the person presented himself/herself at the interview.

Eh, your PSLE score is the 4 or 5 digit one so very impressive to your son, right??!!!
