All About Birthday Parties

Goodie bags are very important to the children! They see it as some form of treasure! haha. Children always want to bring home something. So yeah, goodie bags are a must have!

I think it was rude for the children to complain.

I agree it is very important to children and mine look forward to these more than the actual celebration. And I have to painstakingly explain that a birthday party was to celebrate one's special day and a goodie bag is one (small) part of sharing happiness. Good company is important and sincere well-wishes.
I remind them not to expect too much- manners as good guests and just be happy to be part of the celebration.

Were goody bags started to make the little guests not that left out in that they also had some gifts to take home? And also to teach the birthday kid that when you receive (presents) you also give back?


In any case, i remember ds1’s 2nd birthday party when he received quite a number of really nicely wrapped presents. And we parents will place all the presents together and arrange them nicely till opening time, right?

So even though I had goody bags to give away to the guests too, and add to that a huge pinata with more goodies inside to pack away, there were kids who cried and wanted to take the wrapped presents home as well.

It was my eldest son’s party so I was still a very young inexperienced mom. I didn’t know how to handle the guests who cried. There was 1 who cried particularly long and despite having the goody bag and pinata fillers, still wanted to take ds1’s bday gifts home.

oops! They were at the age when you can’t even reason well with them.

I let ds1 open up the presents and the kids could play with the toys together with him. Thought that would make the crying guest feel better but no, it made the guest refuse to go home! oh dear…

Any suggestions for big kids parties?


MacDonald seems too kiddy for 9 or 10 years old kids. I'm thinking of pizza hut or jack's place. These restaurants have student's meal so probably can order one meal for each kid? Got to engage someone to entertain them though. Anyone has experience hosting parties in pizza hut or jack's place?

Or any other suggestions? Thanks in advance

wow.. really too pampered these children. complain when no goodies bag ? maybe their perception of having a birthday celebration in school means goodie bags will follow.. which in some way, is normal, as they are jst kids and the goodie bag is meant to cheer them up .. i dunno. for me as a parent, goodie bag is for my DD to share with her frens. her big day, so let her be the \"main actress\" she gets to distribute to her frens then share the goodie inside the bag.


afterall, it's all about to get them feel happy !

thanks for sharing i think the child's parent should intervene in such situation. yeas, they may be too young to understand, but the parents should at least distract him and not insist on the gifts..

sometimes birthday party is like a trend… parents get influenced… e.g i personally dun like 3D cake, as i feel it’s s waste with those fondant and all which is not healthy to eat . It’s basically nice to see and not nice to eat… and so much wastage when making it. cakes has to be cut into shapes etc…but as there are many fren’s children are buying 3D cakes for birthday… i was tempted… and my DD wanted so much for princess cake… instead of those picture printed on the cake… i feel 3D princess cake looks fantastic ! so… i gave in to the "wastage" part… im going to get her 3D cake… heee… jst keep telling myself…she wil be 4 once and next year she might not want princess anymore…

What about at home or a function room somewhere? Cant really do much at Pizza Hut or Jack's place besides just having great food.. I think kids that age still wants fun

they do look great indeed! i hvnt bought any 3d cakes but i love drooling over them. it is a lot of fondant, icing, & cream wastage!

cos i've tried making them myself, but they're not as nice of course. i just know how much sugar is wasted!!

Kabby, totally agree lor… but there are so many 3D cakes that looks sosos good if it’s on the table for birthday compare to the plain looking cakes… sigh…

Hi all, any feedback? My baby girl is turning 4.

Been tasked choose a venue for her birthday.

My final 3 are:
1) GO GO Bambini
central location, good for guest, but a little worn out.

2)Jumperzillas
New place at MBS, facility is brand new and attracted by the handicraft work for kids

3) Polliwogs
attended 2 parties here. love the ambience as its just by the beach.

Any feedback on the three locations to help me decide? Thank you.
