Raffles Girls' School (Secondary) [*IP]

Hi Dharma,
Thank you for your reply. I heard in MGS for Sophia Blackmore Class(SBC) they have to do HMT for Tamil and Malay. But not sure.
I think RGS will be difficult for my daughter to get in because she is not very strong in both the languages. In the NUSH olympiad (NMOS) she has got into the second round but do not know the certification type yet. Only the top 30 is listed in the NUSH school website. If she cannot make it to NUSH, then the other choices are NJC and MGS. I prefer MGS because it is a girls school. -

Heard SBC Program at MGS is quite good. 1st batch sitting for Os this year. You may wish to consider NUSH if your child is extremely strong in science and maths.
Don’t write off RGS yet. Still have 1 year more to brush up on the languages. Being strong at Maths and Science will help in PSLE.
Although MGS is an all girls school, I’ll go for NJC cause of its Integrated Program (IP).

MGS' first batch of SBC students sat for their O levels last year. Results were alright, not outstanding. -

Hi Dharma, no problem. Maybe your friend's batch is first batch starting from Sec 1 and the lot that graduated last year started in Sec 2? Just guessing. Info was given during SBC briefing this year. -

Thanks turquoise. What do u mean by \"results were alright, not outstanding?\" Can elaborate?

Thank you very much for your reply. I have asked my girl to continue HMT as of now. Maybe during the first quarter of next year we will be in a better position to decide. -
GPA 4 in RI/RGS means scoring above 80. This is in fact quite common for subjects like Maths, Science, Geog, History but not so for languages.
Hi ! On the topic of languages, I have several queries on 3rd language.
Does anyone know what % of Sec 1s in RGS are currently taking a 3rd language ?
Due to the heavy workload, I heard that the drop-out rate for 3rd language is very high each year. Any figures on this ?
Any advice from parents whose children are taking a 3rd language - advisable or not since pupils have another 7 compulsory subjects to handle ?
What is the weekly schedule like and where are the lessons held ?
I heard a very strange comment from a current RGS girl who mentioned that it was 'risky' not taking a 3rd language as teachers might think they are not as 'competent' as those who are taking a 3rd language and give them poorer reports at the end of the year/fewer leadership opportunities. I find this hard to believe. Anyone has any experience to share on this ?
Thank you !

Heard that students from top schools will be asked to leave if they fall below standard. Any truth in this?

Actually whether true or not is not material, if results is really below standard, it is better for the child to take some action, either buck up or move to a place more suited to preserve self-esteem, unless the child is handling it well.
