DS started childcare when he is 20 months old. From then, he is literally taking medicine everyday until today. It's been 3 months.

His flu and cough would recover less than a week and a new bout of flu starts again.. Im very worried about the side effects of the western medication. So we brought him to TCM. He is almost recovering while taking TCM medication but he caught a new bug the 4th day he is taking TCM medicine.

Im so desperate and lost I give him whatever fruits, water, rest and veg. But nothing seem to work.

I would be grateful if you can share with me things that u do to improve your children's immunity. Can tuina help in strengthening immune system?

Yes, xiao er tuina (which is very different from the adult's tuina) really helps in strengthening the immune system of young children, I brought my two daughters to do xiao er tuina since their infant stage and touch wood, they seldom fall sick as compared to other children around them.

However, if your child always catch flu and cough like what you mentioned, then perhaps he is suffering from Nasal Allergies or other form of Rhinitis beside having weak immune system. There's a TCM Clinic at Havelock road that provides special treatment for such ailments, using some kind of herbal steaming for the nose. The treatment is very effective, rather children friendly and do not cause any side effects unlike western medicines.

I've recommended this treatment to some of my friends who's children were suffering from nasal allergy and their kids are all much better now, therefore I strongly recommend you to let your son try it!

Myself and my baby girl is a patient of TCM at Havelock Road.
I’ve been seeing Dr Tan for 3 years and my girl for xiao er tuina since she was 5 days old.

Xiao Er Tuina does helps to build up my girl immune system. I sent her to infant care since she was 4 months old. She is hardly fall sick. Her teachers was commented even though my girl is sick , she is still very active and playful. Somtimes, can’t really tell she is having high fever until teacher checked her temperature.

Of course it is not an overnight treatment. It needs a lot of patience. I sent my girl twice a week for xiao er tuina until she was 4 months old. After that, once a week till she is 14 months old. She never had sleepless or constipation problem as compared to other babies.

Perhaps you may want to give it a try, seek some advice and alternative treatment for your kids.

Let me share my recent experience on the tuina at Havelock Road

I brought ds for the tuina as he has persistent cough and phelgm. I must say that the place is very clean n tidy there.

The doctor checked the condition by using a stethoscope. I am rather surprise as I thought she will be touching the pulse as this is supposed to be TCM. After which we proceed with the tuina and nose herbal steam.

We were given some medicine. Ds improve quite a bit after the first visit. His throat is clear of phelgm. Subsequently we went for the 2nd and third time since the result is encouraging.

We were charged $28 for the tuina + $13 for the nose herbal steam. The medicine costs about $12-$20.

However, on the third visit, the tuina was done in less than 10 mins. The first 2 times for the tuina is ok. She did about 30 minutes on ds.
There were no other patients and I feel that there is no reason for them to do such a rush job.
After the third time, I notice ds still has a runny nose and is rubbing his nose all the time due to some itchiness.

Perhaps I have to give more time to TCM?
I guess parents have to be very patient as the visit has to be very regular. I just wonder whether there are other TCM that can just feed medicine on the kid. Going TCM on twice weekly or weekly basis is no joke for parents that do not drive.

I'm surprised that you make such a comment on the tuina at Havelock Road. I and my 3 kids are long time patients of Dr Tan at the TCM clinic at Havelock Road, my kids go there for tuina on a regular basis, besides receiving treatment on their allergic rhinitis. Based on our experience with them, there's never one time where the tuina is performed for 10 minutes, I guess there must be some misunderstanding on your side....To be fair, perhaps you should clarify that with them first, before making wrong accusation on them. I've known Dr Tan long enough to know that she is very professional and patient in work and will not rush the work regardless how busy they are. She is also very friendly and caring and i'm sure she will be more than willing to answer to your query, should such incident occurs. By the way, since you mentioned that your son was asked to do the nose spa therapy due to his persistent cough and phlegm, there's a high possibility that the tuina was performed on him while he was doing the nose spa, which usually last about 20min, thereafter they would continue the tuina for another 10min at the massage room after the nose spa (so total 30mins of tuina). Perhaps that's what happened on your third visit but somehow you were not aware of it. I know it very well because my kids were doing the same thing every week. It helps save a lot of our time, and most parents like me don't mind at all. I think you should continue the treatment for your child since you could see improvement in just 2-3 visits. Persistent cough is most likely \"not\" caused by normal cold & flu but rather it's due to Rhinitis, therefore feeding your child with medicine alone might not be effective. My kids had the same problem and the herbal nose spa works very well on them as compared to oral medication.
