Well I’ve personally known a few who have gotten in through renting within 1km.

Yes this is indeed stressful yet helpless situation. Such a pain.

My hubby is thinking of renting a place near to CHIJ Katong or Haig Girls'. Someone told me that renting is illegal and we need to bring our bills (electricity etc) during registration for verification purposes and if we failed to do so, we'll be fined or jailed. Does anyone know if it is true?
Not illegal as long as you are staying there. You just need to change your IC to reflect the new address. To change the address, you need to bring one of your bills, bank statements, etc. Don't need to show the school as the school will use the address on your IC.

For those who are rich, the best is to buy a yet-to-complete ppty near a good school. Then you can monitor situation and decide if want to register in the school near the new ppty or current place. In this case, don't have to change address and can decide last min.

Wow didn't think of that.... It indeed offers more choice and not against any rules as parents can really decide to stay at either addresses after enrollment.

So sad.....no budget for another house......

but there is risk involved. I heard from my colleague that his friend was caught of such incident and his kid name was struck off from the list. Past years, there are such reports came out in the news for such case.

            So think twice.. :xedfingers:

Those whom were caught were probably due to the fact that they ultimately did not stay in the address they used during registration. If a family genuine stays in the address they use for registration after enrollment, I think such cases are genuine and should not be penalised.

Correct me if I am wrong. 😄

past few yrs, Ju Ying primary was popular. But this yr not so, wondering why?

anyway, the teachers are very hardworking for P6 kids. Have night class from 6.30 pm - 9.30 pm :-

I believe Pathlight takes in children with autism and related disorders, including severe dyslexia. Best to contact them directly to find out.

A good friend of mine has a DS who recently transferred there from a popular boys school. He was borderline autistic and the experts had advised my friend that she could leave him in the regular system if she wanted (he would struggle with some subjects) or move him to Pathlight. It was a difficult decision for her but she made the transfer, and he is now very happy there.

Seems to me that the environment there is good.

You are correct. those that were caught were usually those who only used the address as a letterbox (ie not staying there). But moving house is something not to be taken lightly. it's one thing to get kid into a good school, but if one is staying too far away, a LOT of sacrifices have to be made for the next 6 (or more if multiple children) years - wake up early, pickup from school esp if got cca.

Mine is in P1 this year in a school that is nearby. Not an elite school though still popular in the neighbourhood. We did entertain thoughts of moving. But childcare concerns meant it's best we stay put. No regrets. Kid is doing well, and I believe, well regarded by his teachers also. best of all, he can wake up later each morning.
