Presidential Election 2011
-
I know of some people who voted for TJS although they liked TCB as they believed that in that way TT has less chance of winning. So their plan backfired miserably!
A miss is as good as a mile.
No point crying over spilled milk.
Enjoy whatever milk that is left in the cup.
So the nation has decided and whether we like it or not we have to live with the majority's decision.
We should be united and respect our president even if he was not your choice.
For the past few weeks, I have been busy with the talk of the election.
Now it is off my mind. Things have gone back to normal, and can prepare DD for her PSLE and I can return to pursuing my hobbies. :imcool: -

Yup, could not help wishing TKL had pulled out and TJS did not appear! Then TCB would win.
TJS supporters may have similar wishes, if only TCB had pulled out and TT did not appear! then TJS would win. :siam:

carebear:
:yikes: You mean these people do not believe that TCB could win but believe TJS would win? :faint: :faint: :faint: Think too much...I know of some people who voted for TJS although they liked TCB as they believed that in that way TT has less chance of winning. So their plan backfired miserably!

They didn't track doesn't imply they don't want to.. it could be due to lack of resources. After all, they should be tracking big fishes and not small prawns even if they want to.
As for PAP scaring people to vote for them, there is really no basis. One thinks that the internet gives anonymity but I know for a fact that if anyone wanted to, they CAN (and in some criminal cases) they DO track down exactly who is writing what and from where. The technology exists to do that. We are brave and loud-mouthed and abusive because we think we can't be tracked. The truth is, no one bothers to track. This reflects the government's tolerance of dissident views and determination to allow the people's voices rise up.
Let's look at China and the rail accident. They tried to cover up, but the news spread on social media such that even a country like China with powerful control on information and internet can't stop it even if they wanted to.. just to give an example.. -
Extremely DISPPOINTED ! Thought TCB will win but turn out …sigh ! Still cannot get over it !

:goodpost:concern2:
One of the major concerns of MNCs is political stability. Singapore is bent on this advantage - but at the cost of its people. The divide is caused by the people who created it in the first place, yet we continue to hub on stability. STABILITY OF WHAT? Stability of having bigger cracks to balance on lest we become the ones to fall through? I can yet find my own resolution.
So... if the MNCs pull out and jobs are lost, it will not cost people their livelihoods... their spending power... their peace of mind? So... you want the MNCs to pull out to gain a quantum leap in political change, as if that will not ALSO cost the people?
It seems to me that the pace of change is nice and brisk. A good warning has been given to the MIW. There will be greater debate in parliament... and in the next 5 years, the opposition will strengthen and will be more ready to take on governance as (and if) PAP further weakens (in its ability to stay in touch and attract men/women of calibre). That is a pretty good balance between change and status quo.
One mustn't be in such a hurry to CHANGE, CHANGE and CHANGE that we forget that the bathtub holds both the baby and the bath water... and why throw the baby out with he bath water. We may be somewhat disappointed in the results but there is always a tomorrow to hope in.
My humble 2 cents.

I have written severe anti-govt pieces on my blog. They tracked me down. I did not go to jail. Indeed, there was an earnest desire to listen and dialogue and find solutions. Elections are over. We need to work with the government we have. We should NOT shut up and submit. We should continue to say our piece and give our feedback and help each other do better. Until the next elections, where we get to choose again.
So let's stop with these conspiracy theories... people are scared... people are afraid... people don't wanna risk... My question is, when I write a severely anti-govt piece, I stand up and show my face to the government and I present the logic of my stand. They KNOW who I am. We have conversed. Those who come here and write out conspiracies and unflattering descriptives, would you say the same things with faces unveiled?
:salute: your courage to stand up too. -

We are not as big as China. They tracked me. They found me. They MET me.They didn't track doesn't imply they don't want to.. it could be due to lack of resources. After all, they should be tracking big fishes and not small prawns even if they want to.

If all we are saying is insults and emotion, then they wouldn't waste the resources. You think with our reserves they have NO resources to track if they wanted to? They don't want to because unlike many repressive governments, ours is not repressive... and hence they don't wanna waste resources tracking people who post insults.
They don't have to track everyone you know. All they need to do is track down one or 2 and shoot them... and then publicise it. Everyone else will shut up. This leaves those who are truly courageous to speak their piece. Those who WILL say their piece no matter up. China locks them up. Why need so much resources to track? Pick out the hard core ones. Make an example... and most will shut up.
This idea of lack of resources is illogical. A repressive regime does not need much resources to terrorise the populace. Our government does not want to frighten anyone nor punish anyone for speaking their heart. -
If I see election as a game, my afterthoughts are the campaigning candidates are simply not "smart" enough to outsmart Ah Gong and collectively, we people are also not able to outsmart Ah Gong’s thought process…the strategic thinking power is immaculate.
I take comfort that if this is applied in working for the country in times of difficulties with external parties, then we are in VERY good hands. Bravo If not, it may just be misconstrued as something negative. I choose to see it as the former and I am happy to put my hands together to clap for the new President. All Hail the new President!!! It was a good calculated win! clap clap Now is delivery of promise time. -
Disagree the theory that TT + TCB = mandate. Remember TT is the only one being endorsed by authority and not TCB.
What the ppl in the "other camp" are saying is anyone but TT. Even "LHL" got the msg and wants both camp to unite to face problem ahead.
If TKL and TJS didn’t come into picture, it would have been TCB the President.
TCB is well loved in the West (I stayed in West for some 20 years) when he is the doctor and MP with a heart to serve. Unlike TT cannot even hold strongly in the North where he used to serve.
Some MP today lacks this serving quality and some are opportunists of additional income (prove otherwise by full time MP I will respect), why I say this is because before election, ask anything, ok, ok, immediately do, after election disappear don’t know where, email also never acknowledge, less to say a proper reply.
TCB also has support from members of SPP. -
JonC:
Yeah... I can't help but agree with you also. At the end of the day, it really had nothing to do with MIW but with the individual men running. I also agree with you that MANY MPs lack this \"serving\" quality.Disagree the theory that TT + TCB = mandate. Remember TT is the only one being endorsed by authority and not TCB.
